ive been training sanda for a couple years now but i started training wushu. i got to say that changquan was one of the forms/styles that helped me the most. it builds up the leg strenght that are great for kicking, as well as body coordination. jet li did an amazing job. to achieve that clean technique he had to work really hard. show some respect and enjoy this amazing demo :)

Just to make it clear: This is contemporary wushu; this is a sport. There are two types of sport wushu full contact (sanshou/sanda) and exhibition (taolu, modern forms). The purpose of this is to look as good as possible, not to be effective in fights. They do less foundation training and more acrobatics training. Even if you ask them, they say that the purpose of it is not fighting. If they wanted that, they would train traditional wushu.

@gwl1983 This is the artful portion of the style, a kata if you must. ChangQuan is very practical in fighting standards as it is a long-range fighting system and style. The art instructs mostly offensive techniques that revolve around fully extending strikes.

Muay Thai and Brazilian Jujutsu (not to be confused with Jujutsu) are indeed strong-that is, as a sport. They are combat sports, and though they might have traditional training also, the priority is sport fighting. Traditional Chinese martial arts don't have rules, the purpose is to be the last man (or woman) standing in the field of battle. Don't compare sport and traditional martial arts, or combat and exhibition sports. They are all good for what they're meant to, little for else

Wow! fantastic!. a big mix of Tong Bei Quan, Fan Zi Quan, Cha Quan and Gymnastic. this form of modern wushu is not easy, but for Li Lian Jie was nearly simple. this way of wushu is very far from mine, for me it is very difficolt to learn. I study and teach Old WuShu ( seven star praying mantis boxing). best regards to all WuShu's lovers

now here i was going to say something nice about jet cuz he looks awesome here but then i cant help but notice some people think kung fu would stand a chance in the octagon?? cmon people the first 10 ufc were to prove which style would reign supreme in a 1 on 1 combat situation. its called brazilian jiu jitsu. there is nothing wrong with liking kung fu or kick boxing or whatever but just cuz you like it doesnt mean its going to beat everything else.

What is it with people arguing over what the best martial arts is? Martial arts is an expression of self hence the "art" and at their root are for combat the "martial" part. In combat it's the skill of the individual that wins not the weapon or method. Since MMA was brought up, the most successful fighters in MMA are the ones that are the most diverse. If one art were better than the other then there would be no need to "mix" martial arts now would there?

ok...and you cant argue that in the last 30 years, since bruce lee and thanks to his media coverage, martial arts has evolved into what we know as mma or UFC for mainstream audiences. and if you want to get into the evolution of warefare, then id chose rifle over any kung fu master. dont be so ignorant.

as for the ufc vs kungfu statements: Jet Li has said himself that he would not stand a chance against some of todays ufc combatants. This i believe. Yes Jet Li is extremely skilled and knows more of the 'art' But vs a modern 6 ft + muscle head ufc fighter that only knows how to take hits and destroy oppponents he wouldnt stand a chance. Essentially ufc/k1 shouldnt even be compared to any form of kung-fu, as both deserve their own recognition and respect

is that sarcasm? lowest form of wit dont ya know... but ill accept your kudos. lets be real, we disagreed about martial arts and you bring in pathetic points about there not being any masters in there...well who has the right to call anyone "master". Wushu and MMA have on thing in common, its hand to hand combat, so any reference to warfare is invalid. My points are that even in the early UFC's where there was no skill at all, those events still separated true fighters from dancers
