Video of my early Friday morning JetBlue Flight 1975 from Fort Lauderdale to Kingston.
The fun part of the video for me was that upon reaching Kingston, we flew past the airport east to around Yallahs, St. Thomas, before doing an elongated 180-degree turn and lining up for the approach to land on the runway heading in an east to west direction.
That marked the first time in my 50+ years of flying into Kingston either as a resident in the 1970s or an ex-pat since then that I had ever landed at Norman Manley Airport in east-to-west orientation. Due to the prevailing winds, over 90% of the flight operations take off and land going west to east on Runway 12/30. As an aviation enthusiast and plane spotter over the years, I’ve seen planes land and take off going east to west but had never been onboard one that landed in that direction.
Included in the video is a Sunrise photo over Cuba that I took in which you can see the curvature of the earth.
