I just happened to come across this channel probably because I'm subscribed to several Toronto walk channels. And now I'm subscribed to this channel 🚲🚲🚲🚲.

Did you know that, some are modding these to go 60kph, do you really need a course for a scooter lol, i think you already have plenty of experience, like me, i rode motorcycles for 20 years, and since i stopped paying for the license, because i don't have one anymore, i would have to take another course all over again, that's why i build fast ebikes now, the new laws are not scaring me at all, still see plenty of Surrons in my hood.

I'm not surprised people are modding unstable Jetson Bolts to reach ridiculous speeds. There are always daredevils out there, lol! To be honest, I only have about one and a half years of experience riding moped-style rides. But since the long-term plan was to go from fake-scooter -> real scooter -> small motorcycle -> adventure motorcycle, I did watch a lot of KZitem channels about riding safely, making tight U-turns, stopping without putting my feet down, the mirror--shoulder--indicator--mirror--shoulder--pass technique, etc. I only need the course for the Class 6D license because it's required by law. But it's only a total of 6 hours, and the SAAQ doesn't test you on the road, they only do the usually theory exam any other rider/driver would do. I'll pass it with no problems, I'm sure! 🤓

@@MontrealRides So with this course, you can ride a small E-Motorcycle ? like a Land Moto or a Emmo Zone GTS.

@@stockey As far as I understand it, if it's electric and cannot go faster than 70 km/h, a Class 6D is all I need, even it if looks like a motorcycle. From the SAAQ website: - "According to the Code, a moped or scooter is a passenger vehicle having 2 or 3 wheels, equipped with an electric motor or a motor having a cylinder capacity of not more than 50 cc with an automatic transmission and having a maximum speed of 70 km/h." - "A Class 6D licence allows its holder to drive only a moped or scooter. If you hold a driver's licence or a probationary licence of any class - other than Class 8 − you may drive a moped or scooter." - "Scooter or motorcycle? If the “scooter” has an engine with an engine displacement of more than 50 cc, it is automatically considered a “motorcycle.” To drive it, it is mandatory that you hold a Class 6A (any motorcycle), 6B (less than 400cc) or 6C (less than 125cc) motorcycle driver's licence based on the engine displacement." If it's gas-powered and automatic, than I have to look at the cc's. If it's gas-powered and manual, you would need 6A, 6B or 6C, even if the motor is 50cc. If it can go faster than 70 km/h, Class 6D is not enough. This is something where I would check with the SAAQ before buying, just to make sure you have the correct license class. One last thing. Land Moto seems to say they are EVs (without specifying e-bike or e-motorcycle, some images show a license plate, some don't (it depends on the province or the US State). And Emmo Zone seems to say they are moto-style e-bikes (especially from Durham, the main Emmo dealership in Ontario). This is where the new Québec rules have to be considered. - When you import an e-bike into Canada, it normally DOES NOT have the certification mark indicating that they comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS). But it may have it, too. So you need to verify that. This is why my NIU UQi+ cannot be registered, because it was imported as an e-bike without the CMVSS. - When you import an e-motorcycle, it DOES have the CMVSS. And in Québec, only vehicles with the CMVSS can be registered and plated with the SAAQ to be legally used on public roads. Such a simple question you had. Such a complicated answer I give. 😃

@@MontrealRides Yeah, the Gov made a lot more complicated than it should.

is it possible to modify an illegal bike to make it legal?
@MontrealRides
22 күн бұрын
It can be. There are 2 ways to do this: If you want to make your e-bike legal as an e-bike, it simply has to meet the new rules: - It cannot have footrests or a platform for the driver's feet - It cannot have tires and wheels that have the appearance of those used by motorcycles or mopeds - It cannot have a body that partly or completely covers the frame or some of the components - It must have a height-adjustable seat - It cannot have have an engine allowing speeds over 32 km/h and a power rating over 500 watts. If you can modify your e-bike to meet these conditions, you can ride on the road and on bike paths without a license and registration. If you cannot modify it to meet these conditions, it will remain illegal unless you can get it approved with the SAAQ. If you want to have your ride plated and registered with the SAAQ, you would need the appropriate driver's license based on its power and maximum speed. The SAAQ has always permitted home-made or modified rides to be registered... but this is on a case-by-case basis and can take time. There are conditions that need to be met before it is permitted. I don't know what they are, so I suggest you contact the SAAQ for more accurate (and more official) details.
