Remember this taking the DCS community by surprise. A relatively unknown little Chinese/Pakistani fighter that upon closer examination packs quite the punch. It ain't a Fulcrum or Viper in terms of raw performance but its a dramatic leap from the J-7's and Mirage III and V in all areas. And the new Block III seems quite the budget friendly jet for many nations.

It also took DCS community by surprise for probably being one of the rare case in which early access module already have 90% of its feature already completed at launch, including every avionics and weapon systems on that jet.

The LEX reminds me of the F18. Perhaps gaijin is hinting about it? 😉

The design decision not to include an air-to-air radar gunsight on this plane (and to angle the gun downwards rather than upwards) makes a little bit more sense in real life than in War Thunder. Because the last recorded air-to-air guns kill happened 33 years ago (or 11 years before the first JF-17 prototype was made), it just wasn't considered something a modern plane needed. Guns-on dogfighting just doesn't happen these days (I know, exactly the rationale when they didn't put a gun on the F4 40 years earlier, which turned out to be a terrible idea). The 23mm gun on the JF-17 is really there for ground-attack strafing of soft targets, it's just in War Thunder guns-on dogfights happen pretty often - Less so at top-tier, but they still happen, so we're left with this lack of a radar gunsight. But who knows, the advent of drone-heavy warfare in Ukraine might lead to gun interception becoming more of a role for fighters in the future, since drones are cheap and missiles are expensive.

I'll probably have another one out by the end of the year, around the same time as my annual channel recap.
