To be fair, as someone who spent ten years serving adult living with all kinds of mental illness, some of what he describes sounds mildly manic, but not to a degree that seems problematic. This looks like self-supportive art therapy. What I feel concern about, as a degreed artist and art teacher with training in material safety, is that he might not know enough about safely enjoying his art. Jim describing using paintings as tables to eat off of is NOT a good idea. I cant tell if he has adequate air flow in these spaces, and in several scenes he has splatters of paint on his face, hands or arms. Even with acrylic paint, that's not a great idea, especially if you're doing this every day. I hope he knows not to eat, drink or smoke until he has thoroughly scrubbed up.

Steak, that's because they're no longer chasing the dollar and if you're not chasing the dollar in western culture, you're wasting your life. I live on the border of a very affluent city with a lot of elder residents. I was telling a male friend how you can find really interesting tools, often antiques at garage sales in this community. My companion started talking about how to tell fake from real gold jewelry. I replied at least 3 times that I wasn't interested in jewelry; that I like tools because I'm a maker and he said, "If you're not looking for something with monetary value that you can pawn, you're wasting your time." @tincho by using quotes "like this". Miss quoting is common, I read this comment and did not agree with it, and was surprise that jim said that, after watching the video, turns out he didn't. I think J K took the liberty to rephrase the quote, but it changed the meaning in the process.

@tincho Jim saying he love being alive, and the art is an evidence of that: in this case, the art is an evidence of his love for life. What JK said was art is an evidence for life it self. Not even close, art is no evidence for life why would not art exist in death ? anyway not the same meaning.

Man, Jim is truly someone who tapped into his potential, and he tried to signal to everyone what matters more in life, the connection between us all down to the very matter, and how the outside world is a reflection of our inner worlds. You gotta love that guy, he wasn't afraid to speak his mind for what he believes in. And at some point it got to where I need color! I think it all the time. I have always dressed neutral for easy dressing, but now, I find myself dressing in bright colors and bold patterns. It’s like a food craving. I have even started wearing red and fuchsia or purplish lipsticks (I’ve always been a lip gloss or balm girl). But it feels so good! So happy for him. He’s finding HIS ❤way!

The point of this video isn't to show everyone that he knows or is good at painting. @Alex art is artefact. It's proof of one's existence. I'm not buying into anything. Art doesn't have to be expensive, so that's a non factor. Artists, although are "normal people", I'm sure feel more alive during the act of creating. I can't speak for all artists, I can only speak on behalf of myself. I believe people who blindly dismiss concepts they don't understand are the stupid ones, but hey. Anyway, where is the study on how "normal" most artists feel? I'd like to see that.

@Alex Well done, Alex. You've missed the point. A piece of shit is a piece of shit. Art leaves behind representations of people's experiences. What's more valuable as an artefact? A painting from the 16th century? Or a preserved turd?

When I first became depressed, I did so many drawings and paintings. I couldn’t stop and had so many ideas. It was so easy. Now, it’s just not there anymore. My depression is much worse now and I have lost all interest. I like looking at art still, but the process now just makes me extremely anxious and it’s really sad. I feel like I’ve lost the one thing that gave me all the enjoyment in the world.

Hi, that's how art is. Don't worry, one day it will knock on your door. We all go through that valley, where you think you suck, you have no ideas, thinking of giving up or saying I will try tomorrow with clear mind. It's just the way it is! Struggling with depression too and going through that valley again. If you have people around you to encourage your work and tell you that you're good at it then stay around them. Compliments like these can make a difference, having no one to show off your work and motivate you eventually will make you give up. Feedback is important! Good luck :-)

spacebound19 75 Just a minute before I saw your post, I was thinking to myself how I admire the ability to create like that. Even in my youth, I could mimic or expound upon some things, but not conceive. I pictured myself picking up a brush to attempt, and felt like it would just be a waste of paint and canvas. That nothing remotely interesting could manifest. And then I said in my head, it’s because I don’t trust myself. I guess that is the biggest obstacle for any type of expression, discovery of talent or tapping into creativity... trust and letting go of the insecurities and fears. Or maybe using those things to tell a human story, instead of hiding behind or ignoring them. Well, your post has pushed me to revisit my hesitations. Whether by picking up a brush, or picking up an instrument again, after what seems like a lifetime ago. I’m 40. Not at all young anymore; not very old yet. I’m glad you found yourself.

Crazy in the current situation the world is, it's actually a good thing. What most people call "normal" might not be what we should look forward to being(in depth: there was a time when the normal was slavery, for example. Or the work force not having women...people who stood for what they believed in those times were taken as crazy).
@Lucifer-vu1vz

Rosiani victal slavery never ended it just changed form. Some of the stuff these actors have to do to stay relevant is constantly do satanic rituals and get fucked in the butt by old people it’s fucked up but you look at the hand signs all these celebrities do Jay z Beyoncé Kim k all them people those are satanic hand signs. The new world order comes when people abandon fake religion and focus on themselves (spirituality) they don’t want us to become spiritual cause that’s when we lift the veil to this bullshit and figure out we’ve been lied to for millennia. But for now people look at us like we are “conspiracy nuts or crazy” when it’s opposite. You see? They are defending this lie but the time will come more people will be open minded.

It doesn't have to be a sad thing. Some people just need to be alone. I become physically exhausted when I'm around people for too long. I've never resonated with someone so much when he said "my room is heaven to me" because growing up that's exactly what my room was. Every time I would try to spend time with friends or go places where there was a bunch of people I'd just feel miserable and could think of nothing but going back home and being alone again for a while.

I identify so much with "my room was heaven to me"! My room was the only place no one hit me. Lockdown may be hard on others and I'm sorry for that, but for the first time in my life it's finally okay for me to self isolate without stigma.
@Thulgore

I'm 43...........I didn't get to enjoy lockdown. (for some fucking reason being a janitor in a school was considered "essential") I was so happy when I thought I would be. Interestingly, those first few weeks made me love humanity more. (not for myself) I actually saw almost no vehicle traffic. I actually witnessed fathers walk along the creek with their kids. (that is 2 minutes walk from my shitty white trash apartment) I heard fathers tell stories to their kids on that walk. Dogs have never been walked more. I actually also witnessed long term married couples also walking together. (one couple has continued that tradition) (I live in montana........low population per capita) The ONLY thing that changed for me was that I was asked to wear a mask. Interestingly I never get sick and to my knowledge, have never had the flu. For the first time I found a year where the people around me never caught something either. (I've always wondered if I might be some form of a "typhoid Mary".....I don't know) While others were locked down, I was still cleaning the disgusting shit (literally) that I was before. (though less due to no students) I was exposed to even more chemicals as well. Part of the job I suppose. I mourn that initial feeling though. I will never take part in it. It was nice to see people and families actually being humane locally. I don't think I've ever witnessed it with mine own eyes. It spiked right back into hatred in less than a month............fucking humans. How much time you spend looking at yourselves and not seeing anything. I'm human too, much to my chagrin. (not really....but sort of)

My favorite Jim Carrey roles are the ones where he's being true. Not so much of the rubber-faced foolishness, but portraying a whole person with all the shiny bits and flaws. The Majestic. Truman. Eternal Sunshine. Man in the Moon. Seeing him create these pieces, watching him make something uniquely his own where he doesn't have to worry making the world happy, that's the juice.
