this is by far the best tutorial of this song. thanks. Showing the lick followed by a band setting replay is exactly what is needed and helps show how it fits together. great job whoever purple coat is.

This is the best Hendrix tutorial I’ve seen. When Jimi did this recording he used Strat plus fuzz face into Marshall JTM45/100. Play the riff with the fuzz face turned up but not maxed into an already driven Marshall with the guitar volume rolled off to between 7-8. Roll the guitar volume up going into the lead and then back off the guitars volume slightly when playing the main riff again and repeat.

God. I finally scraped myself off the floor. Thanks for the video. I don't know how Jimi Hendrix did it or where that song came from in what region of his brain but I nearly weep every time I hear it. I almost want to buy a Fender and at least one Marshall amp and learn to play Manic-Depression.

Even with tutorials breaking down every bit of his solos, nobody will ever catch up to Hendrix's level. He had the chitlin circuit in his blood and the cosmos in his head. But it's always a trip to try.

@ferinstance01 I've been playing since i was 9 years old...i'm 41 now. I never have been able to fully "grasp" time signatures...i can't listen to a piece and tell you what it is...however, I can either feel it and play it...or I can't

There is a certain element missing from guitar music today everybody can shred but where is the self expression and the freedom to break new ground Hendrix changed guitar and how we looked at it this song can stand next to any song of today with out a doubt

These lessons are by far the most accurate for Hendrix that ive seen. Does anyone know if the lesson for "hey joe" is available from these guys? or if this whole instructional video pack is available anywhere? thanks for any info you can pass along.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's the "learn to play songs from the Hendrix experience DVD" it's on Amazon right now. In the description it's says narrated by Velvert turner. I googled and it's the guy we see here The one playing is Andy Aledort I know it's been 8 months but I couldn't leave the question unanswered

This song is so simple but if you don't know triads it's really really confusing, I hate having to know technical terms I like playing guitar and I want to be showen how to play something rather then have some dictionary thrown at me... It's basic knowledge I know but I rather not bother my brain with such impurities. LSD and insomnia already have a full grip and those terms would induce a full spin on the tetter totter I'm on

0:00 - 2:27 this is the rhythm guitar, not lead, Jimi Played both rhythm and lead I do not know how this is achieved in concerts. their is rhythm lead, and bass(another artist) the consistency is usually done by three artists, not two. I love how he does the extreme pitch shifts. staple to good '60's music totally lacking today. I always require a pitch wheel on a keyboard purchase, my instrument of choice.

Thanks for the interesting tidbit. I wonder if Hendrix also toyed around with open tuning. Manic Depression's main tune is deceptively easy to pick up ( I'm not even a guitar player, a musician yes, and I had it in 20 minutes ) but the solo, like most of his art has many delightful string bendings and variants and that's where I say ohh, ahhh. Cheers!
