It is incredible the level of research and artistic maturity that had been reached by Jimi Hendrix, of which Valleys of Neptune is the most heartfelt testimony. Four months before his death Hendrix attended the Record Plant Studio to record beyond perfection songs like this masterpiece. It is sad to wonder where a musician like this could have arrived if he had not burned so quickly.

This composition is a perfect example of my favorite aspects of what made Hendrix, a special talent. His tone is beautiful, warm and draws you in. We all know what he could do with his right hand on the neck, as a lefty, but his right hand creating rhythm is what gave his playing a dynamic quality, that makes his music dimensional. His stroke creates a bounce. All these years later, he remains unique, relevant, and foundational.

Not only could he sing and play guitar great, but write and compose, record and produce...He will always be missed and always will we wonder what would or could have been...A tear sadly Falls from the sky as I make my way up. May all the life you have give you happiness and love to all around.

Was at the Count Basie Theater, Red Bank, NJ, 1998 (I think) waiting for the latest version of The Hendrix Experience to start, and they were playing this song on the sound system. Later, the announcer explained the origin of the song, and that newly found studio tape recording had been found and a new album was to be released. Loved this song from that day on.

I agree. Hard to find good modern 'true to form' blues. I'm so glad for KZitem! I still love Jimi, but I've dug even deeper. Blind Willie McTell is truly amazing. So are Son House, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Howlin' Wolf, Lightnin' Hopkins, Skip James, Mance Lipscomb, RL Burnside, Lonnie Johnson, Garfield Akers, Blind Willie Johnson, Little Hat Jones, and of course, Robert Johnson.

to declare someone is the best guitar player is foolish, for playing guitar for people who do play is like talking, everybody talks different, but Jimi just had soo much to say and the way he said it through his guitar is what made him so amazing, thats why he was so great.
