I never really understood the obsession with planning for future series. Anderson is still good enough to play, and easily so. If you have a resource, use it until you can’t anymore.

Is he good enough, he is averaging more than 40 in 2nd innings which is bazball main battle ground. He is not good in the Ashes. He didnt have a single impactful spell in ind. He cant bowl long spells. He is a good 3rd pacer but playing as the main bowler. The main guys have to take on a lot more responsibility.

yeah, why blood juinor and inexperienced players before the Ashes? Its the best place to expose them to the top echelon of the game. So what if we lose another Ashes. Better to be a cricket cultist like the Indians. 😂

We have a trophy named after Charles Bannerman at our cricket club. It's named after him & his great grandson who we lost a few years ago.

I mean next year England has two big series. Vs Ind at home and away Ashes. If Anderson wasnt going to be there then new seamers need to given chances against bit easier opposition like SL and WI. But sad to see a great career end like this

Personally feel wrong call made forcing Anderson to retire. He's still first choice bowler and therearestill two other seamers spots which newer players can fill. Feels like theyre focusing on age too much, if hes fit and bowling well keep him

It’s not the age but future. Playing a couple of shitty test teams at home this year is not helpful. So they’re doing the right thing by building the next bench.

Never know what the correct answer is. Do you carry on until you find you can't do it anymore in the middle of a game, or go before you decline noticeably and possibly miss games you could have performed in? It's nice when players can pick their last game and go when they want, but it isn't a right however good they've been.

Smacks a bit of the reason to drop Simon Katich ... "looking at youth for the next Ashes" ... in June, 2011. He was 35. Two years later CA selected Chris Rogers who was also 35 for the 2013 Ashes tour.

You don’t think they are going to be selecting younger bowlers with the Ashes 2025/26 in mind? Would be very surprised if this is a decision to do over a player who is seen as counter to the personal interests of the captain (see Clarke/Katich) given the importance of Stokes in enabling him to play on since being dropped in 2022.

@@FinalWordCricket You'd think so but what if they dig up a golden oldie as well? The big plus for Anderson is that he doesn't break down. I'm with Monsieur Citrus on this one.

@@karannagpal1112 I think the guys are good, but not sure I can listen in future if there are adverts every 2 minutes, but each to their own. There were also some ropey opinions, like if you think Saqib Mahmood is anywhere near an England test team again you clearly haven’t been paying attention the last couple of years

That was one of the many names they brought up as an outside chance. And there's ways to get it without ads. As there is with many other pods.

Appreciate you watching, Stephen. We don't have any control over ad frequency, unfortunately. YT lets us select yes or no to ads, and that's the only choice. If we select no, nobody sees the video.

The decision does stink and Jimmy can position it as he sees fit however he’s fooling himself and I certainly don’t buy it, he was basically forced to retire so I’m guessing he choose the only option. Look to the future is nonsense you pick the best team here and now and the future takes care of itself. You can bleed new bowlers during the coming months this summer even with Anderson within the team / squad and actually rotating the attack rather than flogging them as they have with the likes of Wood in the past. Don’t see anything on the horizon in England with regards to a bowler with Anderson’s quality and let’s not forget the last time England tried dropping Anderson & Broad to look at younger players ? That went rather well didn’t it NOT.
