My father had a store on 42nd and Nicollet from 1973 to 1998. I grew up hanging out there and had NO IDEA that all of my favorite music was being made down the street. This footage is killing me!! Thank you.

These boys are iconic and so insanely talented it just blows my mind. I can't imagine having that gift and being able to produce music like that.

I wished back then that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis could've did a album with Various Artist doing the songs like what Quincy Jones did with Back On The Block. They could've had on the album New Edition, Karyn White, A duet from Alexander O'Neal and Cherrelle, Morris Day, Janet Jackson, Mary Davis of The S.O.S. Band, The Force M.D.'s, Rhonda Clark, A Reunion Track From The Time, Mint Condition, Sounds of Blackness and Lo-Key! and also a duet track from Karyn White and Micharl Jeffries. That would've been a hot album.

Lol so cool. In 1986 I found the phone number to Flyte Time on the inside of the cassette jacket on Janet Jackson's Control. I called the number because I wanted to be a producer but was not yet a producer. Jimmy Jam answered. I was shocked. He talked to me for around 20 minutes and encourage me and I hung up and was amazed he answered. I have no idea what we talked about but it must have been something about how I can get started or something. Great guy and team

1:20 Don't sleep on this dude: Monte Moir. He produced "The Pleasure Principle" for Janet Jackson, most of Thelma Houston's '83 album, Force MD's "Somebody's Crying Over You" and learned to not say the n-word when around his band members even when inebriated.

A lot of people dont know that jimmy jam father James Cornbread Harris is the first rock and roll star in Minneapolis. Jimmy's pedigree is there. Shame Jimmy fell out with his father, becase his father gave him the gift of misic. But i understand

It was a PBS documentary called "The Minneapolis sound"... It was done in 1987 or 1988.... And Flyte Tyme was open door to the crew... Prince did not want to be in the documentary, you could say it was his shy years,,

2:58 Errrr, Jimmy, Terry was into n***erbass. Yes it sounds racist, but it's that ig'nant because nobody besides Black people can make funky bass like Terry, Bootsy, George, old Babyface, Andre Cymone, Michael J. Powell, Attala Zane Giles, etc. Pitch modulation of bass is almost unheard of in modern music of the last 20 or so years😞
