Love the feel of the music, without any posing whatsoever from the musicians, great sound too!

My late father, Bill Nicol was a professional accordionist all his life. In later life Jimmy and Mrs Shand would visit mum and dad in Woodside, Glenrothes.

My Ancestors were at Leslie, buried at the Leslie Cemetery. Henry Robertson and Janet Low. Ironic how I love this music and became a Bagpiper.

This was Sir Jimmy guesting with his son Erskine's band (aka Jimmy Shand Junior). My friend Hamish Smith on second box, Jim Ritchie on fiddle and Stan Saunders on bass.

I agree John that the old tempo had a style of its own but there are some good SCD bands around and If we do not support them there will be no bands

Go to agree with you,, today a lot of players just rush through tunes,, if you want to learn proper tempo listen to the Great Jimmy Shand 👍

You're not listening to the right bands. Ceilidh bands are hell for leather but listen to the bands who play for RSCDS dances and you will hear the difference.

Pretty impressive, especially as Jimmy looks like he's about a hundred in this clip, yet he's still kicking out the jams with his band at the ceilidh. Come to think of it, I'm now old enough not to look out of place at this ceilidh, heh-heh! How time flies?! :) It's fun to watch these old folks really going for it. The old boy at about 0:36 with what looks like kyphosis looks to have impaired mobility, but he is still right into it and is giving it laldy! :) Superb. This lively and somewhat nostalgic clip reminds me we're never too old to have some fun.:)

I notice that as well as Jimmy's own accordion there's also a piano key accordion and a chromatic button accordion - that a hell of a lot of reeds playing! So I'm not really sure which box I'm hearing is JS's!

When and where exactly was this video made? It looks like an "end of term" Scottish Country Dance class at one of the village halls somewhere in Fife or on Tayside.

they don't have the same knowledge and tempo of music as they had long ago, most of the music that was made long ago was made by single farm workers when the worked away from home and lived in the farm bothy.
