Donald Duck Bailey was my father his drummer for 9 years. R.I.P daddy. Miss you much. R.I.P Jimmy. I remember when this first aired all us kids sitting around our b/w tv. We were so proud and excited to see our dad on tv!🙏

Miles Davis called Smith the eighth wonder of the world. Good enough for Miles, works for me.

I was taken by my elder brother when I was 13yrs. of age, mid 60's to see Jimmy he was playing in the Fair Park Coliseum in Dallas Tx. and I was stunned-awe struck-smitten with his incredible abilities. What a wonderful memory to look back on and hear this genius working his magic!

On this day in 2005 {February 8th} jazz organist Jimmy Smith passed away at the age of 79 Forty three years earlier on May 12th, 1962 his version of "Walk On The Wild Side" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #21 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100... In 1962 it was nominated for an Academy Award for 'Best Original Song' {the winner was 'Days of Wine & Roses'} Its composer was Elmer Bernstein; had 11 Oscar nominations, with one win {'Thoroughly Modern Millie' in 1967}

Because they are too stupid to recognize greatness. Jimmy Smith and Booker T are two of the greatest Hammond B3 players of all time. Jimmy is playing with hie eyes closed.

Never forget that this was written by the great film composer ELMER BERNSTEIN ! He gave Jimmy a LOT to work with ! You can find the orchestral version on KZitem by the London Philhamonic conducted by BeElmer Bernstein..it is a masterpiece. Bernstein understood the Blues as few people have.
