Jimmy makes it look effortless. He plays that guitar like he's sipping a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper.

Sublime! I feel joy when I listen to this. Soul, feel, dynamics, emotion. To make a good living doing what you love and doing it so well is a key to happiness. I saw Jimmy many times in his Nighthawk days in MD and DC, but now he is a true creative virtuoso. To me the guitarists who took the instrument to a higher level are Roy Buchanan, Danny Gatton and Jeff Beck. Jimmy is right up there with them.

Great stuff! I get a good blues vibe listening to this, (of course), but I just mean, it makes me feel good. It feels authentic and honest. And the licks and changes are varied and different enough throughout the song to lend some intellectual interest, and keep my attention. Which is similar to the way I feel when listening to my favorite artists like Clapton, and Trower, and SRV. There is enough depth here to engage me!

I still try to see Thackery about once a year. About 10 - 15 years ago, a friend's wife had him and the drivers, play her husbands birthday party. I got to talk to him for about an hour prior to him playing. Always an unassuming guy, just one of the boys. Someone wrote to Vintage Guitar magazine and said he had ruined that guitar, I wrote in and said he'd made a lot of money playing that guitar and I'd take it over any original.

I've seen Jimmy live many times at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA. An amazing guitarist and showman. The lineup of the "Drivers" has changed over the years. I miss Mark Stutso on the drums- and Mark also has a great set of pipes. I saw the Nighthawks - Thackery's original Blues band at the Boston House of Blues, with another lead guitarist in the lineup. Check out the Nighthawks on an old live album, recorded New Years Eve, 1980 or 81, called "Ten years Live."
