4-Day Getaway - Day 1, Wollongong to Lake Jindabyne
The GS’s have opened up a plethora of ways to get to Jindy. We started on the Princes Hwy down to Milton and hopped on to the back roads (from Woodstock Rd) that eventually turned to dirt/gravel.
Before reaching the Hwy, we turned off and followed Brooman Rd, which is an easy, undulating and twisty dirt road that takes you to the River Road.
The River Road showed signs of wear from the recent rains that had created potholes & corrugation, but it’s still a great ride.
Crossing the Shallow Crossing and a little later, the Currowan Creek Shallow Crossing always makes for an interesting journey. We earlier checked the tidal values to ensure we left home appropriately so we could actually make the crossings without having a swim!
Following the Clyde River, we finally joined the magnificent Kings Hwy and had a great run over the Clyde Mountain. After lunch at Braidwood, we headed down Cooma Road, a 140km stretch from Braidwood to Cooma, which has 40km of the best quality dirt road which passes through some beautiful landscapes - our favourite being Krawarree Road, Snowball. There’s also some decent bitumen on this run, some with the usual damage & potholes, which are getting plenty of maintenance.
After another coffee at Cooma, it was a short run to the Lake Jindabyne Hotel, where we caught up with Whitey, who got his GSA serviced at Canberra and enjoyed the beautiful ride through the Canberra hills and Boboyan Rd.
