Hi Rob. I haven't seen this colour and I think it's absolutely gorgeous. Sorry to hear you had to put a lot of work into the nib alignment but it seems to write very well now. It still amazes me that you can find such beautiful fountain pens for so little money.

I’m glad that Jinhao haven’t followed the path of charging £30+ for their pens, like many Chinese manufacturers have done for the last few years. This is a lovely pen 😊

Hi Rob! Some sellers define the color of this fountain pen as "peacock blue". I purchased it at the end of August 2023 for 13 euros. Even for the European market it had costs over 20 euros. There should be no stylus problems like the ones you solved with your knowledge and technical skills. Jinhao nibs are generally very reliable; I had some problems with their #8 nibs for Jinhao of notable performance. Thank you for this interesting review, welcome back! Finally!

It gets to be just a repeat when you've covered all the nib types from a company (or if it's really just a Jowo or Bock nib holder, like many today. 😉) But then they come out with a really interesting colour or design, that deserves getting notice. And Jinhao is certainly one to do this. A design takes off, suddenly there's a dozen colours. Kind of a thing for Chinese pen manufacturers. 😁 Like LAMY about the nibs. Can be hit or miss, sometimes. I think for the same reason. Massive mass production. Brian Goulet sells Jinhao (though why would you pay twice the price, plus shipping, just to get it from a domestic retailer?) and he's said they really prefer lots of 10,000 or more at a time. The original Duofold design wasn't the best poster. Many from the "flattop era" don't post well. And the Jinhao looks more like the modern design, which has less taper to post on than the ones from the 1920s. The majority of Chinese pens are still budget pens, IMO. Would you have expected an Osmiroid or Platignum to always write well right away? 😁 Or a Waterman JIF or Sheaffer student pen? Was a Sheaffer student that got me away from fountain pens for several decades, because they were REALLY hit or miss in the early 1990s. (And the REAL Esterbrook lever fillers that got me back into using them. The modern ones would have Richard Esterbrook spinning in his grave because of the price and how they don't make their own nibs.)

I have a good handful of pens with that "one-sided" chatoyance, and at several price points. Some other resins with more of a "flake" pattern have chatoyance on two sides, alternating with dark areas. It bothered me at first, but at this point I've come to accept it as a characteristic. This is a very pretty pen, but then again I love teal.

One sided chatoyancy is certainly a thing. I remember the Pelikan Ocean Swirl received a lot of criticism for this characteristic.

Diamine Eau de Nil was the first full bottle of ink I purchased, one of my absolute favorites. I am curious if the acrylic of this pen is the same as what’s on the Hong Dian N7 Peacock, they look similar in pictures.

They do look incredibly similar, however I wasn’t tempted to buy the peacock, so I cannot compare these two pens.

I appreciate your reviews quite a bit. My impression of the 100 is mixed. I do prefer the Kaigelu 316a. I know I may be in opposition to others but that is why there are so many pens available.

Thank you! I too am a big fan of the Kaigelu- it’s a shame that the 316 gets passed by quite a lot as it is a good fountain pen.
