Thank you Chris for taking your time to do this review! I am new to pens but have gone bonkers in discovering this age old writing tool. Jinhao has been my favorite as I’ve also discovered Temu. The prices can’t be beat. I’ll be looking forward to watching more of you videos. Thanks again , Steve

I enjoy hooded nibs for the reasons you mention, useful, everyday writers in any setting. The screw cap was a big mistake, I agree. Thanks, Chris!

Chris, love the channel. Question, what is the significance of your opening into song?

A statement that may apply to many of us collectors, "we want it all!" Plus, I love the song.

Thanks Chris. I've got quite a few hooded nib/Parker 51 types and I've always been pleased with the Jinhao iterations. However, I do tend to favor the 85s...

I was watching an episode of a pen bloggers' program in which a listener was bemoaning the lack of orange inks. Though I rarely watch their videos, I may well tell them about this carnelian glitter bomb. Thanks for another honest and demonstrative review, Chris.

I have a set of three Hero 616s with the push/pull cap and the aeromatic feeder. I like the feel and the nostalgia of the friction fit cap better than I would like the twist cap on the Jinhao. The aeromatic filling system gives it a nostalgic feel as well. They're great writers. While I will pass on the Jibhao 86, I may get an 85. They have a great look, twist cap and converter notwithstanding. I love my Jinhaos, and I have many, but I wish they would diversify their filling systems from only cartridge converter, like the other Chinese pen companies have done.

Hi Chris. Nice pen but as I've already got the 85 and a few 51a models I don't think the 86 would give me anything extra.

Did your bulb syringe come like that or did you slice the end off? It's genius!

Bulb had a plastic nozzle that I removed. You might find a similar one as an ear syringe. www.amazon.com/Syringe-Washing-Squeeze-Rubber-Laboratory/dp/B08CXDXZ6Y/ref=sr_1_4

I agree the 85 is a nicer pen with the wood barrel. My last Jinhao had an EF nib and it writes horribly. I don't know if nib replacement's are available for a #5 nib.

@@chrisrap52 I don't know how I missed this video. Thanks. Do you have the Jinhao 222? Can you pull out the nib from the assembly? It doesn't seem to want to pull out on mine. Any suggestions?

I have always enjoyed your reviews just like this one. It would be, however, very helpful if you showed the process of nib swaps on camera. In case of hooded nibs, like in the Jinhao 51A it appears to be far more difficult than suggested.
@chrisrap52

I don't swap hooded nibs very often. See this video for a 618 swap. kzitem.info/news/bejne/0YSi03mfqmOlgXY Every pen is different, even same model. Just need to develop your own methods if you want to swap nibs.

Interesting pen and the ink, too. Every time I see one of these 85s or 86s and others, it brings to mind my old Freudian Psychiatrist from High School who was wanting to say, over and again, how the shape is indicative of male sex symbolism. I remember it, but I don't hold much value in such ramblings, any more than an ink bottle is indicative of - - Well, you know....
