I have a set of the translucent 992s and I really like them, which shocked me as I don’t usually buy fine nibs. But they’re great pocket pens and I am fine throwing one in my purse.

These are very pretty pens and green is my favorite color. However, when I buy a demonstrator I go for clear, or frosted as in my Opus 88, so the color of the ink becomes the Star. Thanks!

I did enjoy this video, though for the huge difference in price I would have expected a lot more from the 308. I do not own one, nor do I foresee ever buying one. Even with my fairly large hands grip section diameter has never been an issue because I use a very light traditional "hold" rather than a "grip." I have a number of 992s purchased mostly for learning to work in pens and nibs, and for my young grandchildren to use. Having said that, I almost always have one as one of my 4-5 inked pens because they are lovely little writers, and I enjoy writing with them. I have a number of much higher end and vintage pens, but these days I find ultra-cheap pens a lot more fun and interesting.

I try and have a wide range of pens inked up, but most of them do that same thing - they write well irregardless of cost.

I have multiple of both pens, and although both write well and have never had issues with either in this department, the 992's have a habit of developing cracks in the section area and barrel plug, whilst my 308's are still as solid as the day I bought them. The above with the fact the 308 uses a #6 nib, well, a no brainer, the 308 gets my vote. Incidentally, you can get the 992 with different nibs, from a hooded right through to quite a large stub and I've bought a couple of these in 1.1mm and 1.5mm stubs, these nibs are close to a #5 size and can be used in other pens that use this size nib, albeit the nib may require a minute amount of reshaping/forming on the section of some pens.

Penbbs 308 está difícil de encontrar ao contrário da Jinhao 992. Grato, Sr. Eves.

definitely prefer the Penbbs 308’s nib: a European no.6 seems to be my sweet spot!; thanks for this:)

I haven't tried swapping nibs yet. I've got a cursive italic nib I may try on it.

I do have both pens. The Jinhao 992 is an impressive pen for the price, especially with that smooth nib. It has two drawbacks: the bottom of the pen (which holds the convertor) cracks. But more annoying is how much cheap the plastic feels in the hand, it gives the impression that the pen may break at any moment, under the weakest of grips. It is like the designers of the pen went through all mainland China in search of the very cheapest of the cheap plastic and, not content to find it, they eagerly asked the plastic manufacturers if they have any chemical recipe they rejected as it was really too bad, and they asked for that one -even if they had to pay more! The 308 is way better quality, the plastic feels solid and silk-smooth. The leakage in the cap is a reality, it occurs with any ink I put. This is something I only saw with eye droppers pens, so I assume it is caused by the bottom part of the pen being heated by the hand, and that heat, when the cap is put back, pushes the ink from the converter through the feed and then the nib and the cap.

I wonder if they'll do a version of the 992 with "better" plastic. it would increase the cost, but they are handy little pens.

I do not have either pen. The 308 has an edge for me with the nib. However for the price, the 992 is almost laughable. It is certainly worth getting.you can easily experiment with the 992 and if it doesn't work, well you are not out a lot of money. You can buy 10+ 992 pens and it would still be less expensive that the 308. A year ago I would have been in favor of penBBS, but Jinhao has stepped up their game significantly. I love my penBBS pens for their stying and creativity. Jinhao makes excellent pens and have been more creative recently. I would like to see penBBS make a pen with a #8 nib. Excellent comparison, Garry.

I bought a pack of Jinhao 992s (6 pens for £12) with a vew toeyedroppering them. There's a loose plug in the bottom of the barrel that needs to be glued in, otherwise it leaks. However, two of the 6 have cracked in either the cap or the grip section threads, just from sitting unused in a pen case. Not impressed.
