I had TWH for years. I bonded with my colt when he was born. We were joined at the hip and what a great ride he was!

Sir this is the best video I have ever seen on riding a gaited horse. I'm now 62. I had a terrible accident on my gaited horse back in 2000. I smashed my knee completely and broke my tibia and my ankle. Major repair. I was afraid to ride again until recently. You have explained this so well. Thank you so very much. God bless you. 😊

neither have I. I was taught to use leg pressure. I think you are asking for trouble sticking your leg out like that.

Thank you. Great video. I’ve been around and have owned horses for many years. I’m looking at buying my first gaited horse. A Rocky Mountain. They say changing from what one is comfortable with is good. I’m excited again to learn something new.

Love the toe point to make a turn. definitely a better way of asking for a turn than to get into their mouths.

When y'all change gaits, a description of what's being done would be helpful; i.e., use of hands, legs, seat.

What’s the best bit to use on a gaited horse?

It seems simple enough, but what I'm getting is that not all gaited horses are trained to turn on your foot..You do it to save their mouth. You'd have to find a gaited horse that does this.

What kind of bit do you prefer for walking horses,

Light short shank bit, they make walking horse bits, some have different size ports. I use a twisted wire with short shanks. Shanks are the leverage. The more experienced the horse less shank is needed.
