I took my daughter to Sea World for her birthday and was surprised to see a Grey Whale! We got to look JJ in the eye - a moment filled with awe I will never forget. Weeks later, we watched her release on television. The whole family cheered for her. After this experience I felt different about horses in a stall, or a bird in a cage. Freedom is a beautiful and God given right.

JPOG7 TV Nope. The orcas can be kept also. They have mostly Icelandic ones, which aren't far more social than bottlenose dolphins. Calves have a much higher chance of survival in their first six months and until now many orcas have lived to an old age and their lifespan still increases. They are enriched as much as all of SeaWorld's animals or any captive animalor pet one could have.
@spark300c
6 жыл бұрын
they all social. it just orcas need really large tanks to get their exercise in and not be too bored. so what size tank or pond the dolphin happy in you need 4 times the length for a orca. right now most sea world parks do not have it. thought they plan to double in length. they have one larger tank completed by 2018. to it take time see how experiment goes.
@theheroneededwillette6964

spark300c unfortunately some people are so obsessed, they won’t be satisfied till every animal in the park has been released. Ironically, being released would kill those orcas due to behavioral differences leading to them to not knowing how to survive in the wild, and then people would blame sea world for that too. Honestly I wonder if it’s less about the animals and more about feeling more powerful than a corporation and those animals are just the excuse. Even they themselves don’t even realize it.

JJ “has been making the annual migration with them ever since” is a total lie. JJ was never seen again after her release and is presumed to have died not long afterwards. Also, SeaWorld originally refused to take in JJ when the whale rescuers from MAR (Marine Animal Rescue), who rescued JJ in Marina del Rey in 1997, asked them to. MAR had to go to the media and publicly shame SeaWorld into reversing their decision. SeaWorld refused to let any independent marine biologists inspect the tracking device they attached to JJ, which led them all to believe SeaWorld intentionally attached it wrong so that it would fall off because SeaWorld did not want to go through the expense of having to retrieve JJ if she stranded a second time. SeaWorld had a gray whale calf at their San Diego park before JJ in the 1970s, who was captured by SeaWorld employees in Mexico. The calf, named “Gravel Gertie” (also called GG), was taken by SeaWorld employees who harpooned both the calf and her mother. The mother died in the Mexican lagoon trying to protect her calf and GG was transported to the SeaWorld San Diego park where it too soon died from its infected wounds.

@just_a_phase343

Silvawolf100 SeaWorld would never INTENTIONALLY abuse an animal. You can see the love and compassion they have in their eyes for the animals there, but animals deserve to be free and keeping them in captivity is unhealthy and wrong. Take the Killer Whales for example, how many of those animals have died in captivity? Tons have died at SeaWorld, it’s honestly sad. What they did here was amazing and they should do it more often, but not at the cost of the animals life.
@asher8754

Those animals can never life in the wild and captivity dose kill its needed to protect several speeches from extinction. You’d have zero condors, red wolves, addax, oryx, black ferrets, and gray wolves if not for captive breeding programs. Same with the south China tiger, the Guam kingfisher, the Guam rail, and the Hawaiian crow just to name a few. So get off your anti zoo soap box you fucking poser since you clearly have no idea what the fuck you’re talking about
@GTChris

They can be both, it's still a company that needs to earn money and shareholders who are scared to take the risk of one by one trying to release the animals that would have a chance. They are afraid that it will cost more than it'll make them in return, and so they leave these animals in these tanks that severely limit their lifespan. I believe that everyone who works with the animals at Sea World wants the best for them, but I have no such illusion about the shareholders. They see every killer whale as a cash cow that reliably earns them money. Releasing them is a risk they are not willing to take, putting their bank account before the welfare of the animals. I bet you and I would go see their Killer Whales even if they did not do a show and were only shown in a sea pen where they were working hard on rehabilitation. But again that's a risk they clearly are not willing to take financially.

I went to SeaWorld Orlando in 2012 and felt that ALL the animals were treated with extreme respect and care, including the toothed whales... I would like to see SeaWorld developing locations upon promontories, bays or inlets, so that wild animals can freely interact with people, and so that captured animals can be rehabilitated and then released. I believe that there is a very bright future for SeaWorld if they adopt this strategy 👍.
@CleverClover2023

Yes because withholding food, forcing them to perform tricks, treating young females like a breeding machine is treating them with such respect smh. Ignoring all the research done that proves they dont thrive in captivity, all the hundreds of whales that have died from disease and infections is treating them with such care. To say any captive facility is anything other than barbaric is fucking idiotic! Sanctuaries for their captive cetaceans arent part of the 'entertainment' business model. So they will never willingly adopt that.....they will have to be forced to retire their animals. Why would you want wild dolphins to interact with people? Doesnt that encourage people to view them as pets and playthings? Dont you want people to have respect for them? Their captive born animals can never be fully released into wild populations. They can be retired to a sanctuary once one is built and the company is forced to allow them to retire.

is whale a aggressive fish??
@csutherland9865
7 жыл бұрын
They can do aggressive behaviors if pushed to such a point. I've seen gray whales do tail slaps, meaning they slap their tail fin on the surface of the water to scare away a pesky dolphin or boater. I've seen a gray whale do a very rare behavior, a tail throw, meaning they throw water scooped up by their tail and literally "throw" the water, volumes of it, at a boat or another animal bothering it. Whales, most of the time, remove themselves from any situation that bothers them. They can get aggressive if moving away does not work. Mostly the cause of the aggressiveness is people. Other animals will swim away, but some people just don't take the whale's message and keep bothering the whale even though the animal tries to remove itself from the situation. So, whales "can" get aggressive, but by nature, they are not. Aggressiveness is pretty much their last choice of behavior.
@WarriorMasterTrainer
