Sheeeesh how I wish my ex-husband was even 1/16 the man Jo is. That’s all I wanted with my ex, but it went so terribly in the opposite direction to the point of severe parental alienation that brainwashed my son, and ruined my relationship with him. Which was the point. I truly hope more mothers and fathers see this man as something to emulate for the sake of their kids. You’re an amazing person and father. Not to mention, one of the very best comics. Stoked on your success. ✨🥰✨

I can 100% relate, my older sister is schizophrenic and wow was it super scary growing up. Police were always being called for her violence against my mom, brothers, sisters. My other siblings always made sure I had scissors next to my bed in case she attacked me. We all did it. I only felt safe when she was taken away after her attacks. Now being older I have such sympathy for her because I definitely think it was marijuana that triggered hers as well when she was a teenager. Such a shitty deal.

Jo Koy is a lovely person, let me kill one piece of his bullshit he's hurting himself carrying around. Jo, you couldn't have fixed your brother if you told your mom about the weed. Drug addictions are complicated things, the information you needed was not available then, 1) it's possible that nobody would have believed the weed was hurting him, and thus, nobody would have agreed to try to keep it away from him, 2) even if they agreed, and the effort was made to keep weed from him- weed was gotten illicitly at that time, and probably could not have been KEPT away from him, and 3) even if it was, and all of that was done and succeeded, there is no reason to think that weed alone was the only thing sending your brother's mental health down that pathway. More probably the weed is a symptom of the deeper problem, but one that poured gas on the fire.

We did pathologize back in the day- we just named everyone "crazy" and offered next to no help or support - just compounded the pain with shaming.. Nice. And the generational abuse continued on unabated. And sure you're over the childhood abuse you experienced as a kid. Sure, Neal. What about the mananorexia you still suffer with? And probably other issues you don't share about. You can sort of get away with this cause you're not a parent trying to stop generations of abuse and save your kids from the same horror. TRAUMA. It's a thing. You don't get to put down the word cause you're personally irritated and kinda tired of it. Let's make it fun! Jesus. Get a clue.

1:27:00 quite interesting, I get it that the mother of his son is important; but as some point a line has to be drawn. His attention to his ex-wife takes away attention to the new romantic relationship. That isn't fair to the new girl. If he was being honest... He does NOT want to be in a romantic relationship and uses the 'best friend ex-wife' as an excuse. And to add, his son is like 22 years old WTF. Even if you were a woman who is open-minded and even became good friends with the ex-wife there are still boundaries to be had. The ex-wife IMO has totally been taking advantage of Jo's insecurities. I guess good on her.... When you can have a man pay for your lifestyle.

Neal. My dude. Much love. …your Vice? I am not sure I like that word, however, you do have a fascination with self-healing. Not a bad thing. Look where it’s gotten you.💖 your journey gave us Blocks! You have tried things that I had never heard of-and I’m a Bay Area, tree huggin, liberal, flower child from the era of self discovery… my mom had me in EST as a pre-teen🤘🏼🙄🤘🏼 You have gone to extremes that actually scare me, as a fan. It does sound like you’ve found the boundary and respect it. You’ve also become more open to others and seem genuinely more open to receiving love. So, yeah. We can’t be haters regarding vices. Joe is right; if it makes u happy, and doesn’t hurt others, then do you boo. Filling our empty places can be harmful, and learning about where this behavior comes from can allow us to grow and even be whole. I hope your cast gives others the idea that things can get better, that there are things we can do to be in a better place and to be better humans. BTW, adore Joe! Great cast guys.💖🤣🤣🤣🤦🏽♀️🤡🤣🤣🤣

Neal, Trauma is Trauma. It is not overused. You are desensitized to its meaning because there are those who use it as a moral excuse. But I feel you are devaluating others experiences for the sake of your own apathy toward the issue. Try not to invalidate the trauma of others by saying its over used? Thank you.

I loved Jo Koy continually calling out Neal. Neal was being a little bit of a jerk. First off, Neal is a comedian, he should know better than to try and push another comedian to do a bit that he doesn't want to do. Also, Neal spent a lot of the podcast being kind of passive aggressive. Seems, to me, like Neal was still processing his anger over Jo not letting him do a 5 min set however long ago. To be clear, I like Neal and enjoy watching him. However, sometimes even people that you like need to check themselves.

I feel like I should explain something : the fundamentals of treatment for psychotic illnesses (such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, delusional disorder, and most bipolar disorders) is actually pharmacotherapy. Pharmacotherapy is essential to people's recovery and actually saves lives. The benefits of medications for such conditions far outweigh their drawbacks. This is not to say that psychotherapy can't be helpful, but in most cases there are actually no benefits from psychotherapy. There are, however, benefits from rehabilitation and recovery oriented services : basically, adapting to your illness, finding ways to overcome your struggles, improve your social functioning, find ways to a productive and satisfying life. Those approaches are complementary. Please don't think that psychotherapy can replace medications for treating psychotic disorders. The likelihood of this is less than 1%. I'm a psychiatrist and I work with people who suffer from psychotic disorders everyday, and have done so for over ten years now. This is so, so important.
