Aims for the initiative, including why any goals were set
The People Management Department at Jobsplus set up ‘The Competency Indicator Tool’. This tool focuses on competencies i.e., the combination of knowledge, skills, traits and experiences that prepare an employee to be responsible for specific tasks. These characteristics can be divided into broad categories such as Behavioral (actions) or Tangible (measurable) which drill down to further detail. Possible competencies include skills such as listening, problem-solving, writing, or accounting.

A competency model was adopted that determined which core skills are needed to be successful in a particular position. The more detailed the model is, the better chance there is of finding someone who will be able to best carry out the requirements of the position. Ideal candidates can be identified by matching them against the identified criteria.
The core achievements on this programme
The ‘Competency Indicator Tool’ gave a strong insight into the competencies that Jobsplus employees should possess, and these competencies were then honed by further training. This would not have been possible without the ‘Competency Indicator Tool’. Following the creation of the ‘Competency Indicator Tool’, the People Management Department created a database to monitor all training being attended by each employee as regards the identified supra-competencies (Appendix B). This database is updated on a bi-annual basis, and the results are then included in the People Management Department annual training report.
