This is one of the very few times she's ever commented on the incident. For 40 years her handlers tell reporters that she'll get up and walk out if anybody mentions Hinckley or Reagan. She's very composed for an 18-year-old, but remember she was in show business her whole life, and knows how to deal with reporters and stay focused on camera.

It's amazing that Jodie recovered from this incident so well. Young people these days hear her name and think she's just a movie star. As a kid, for a few years, her name became a punch line. Someone would ask "why did you do that" and the joke answer was "I did it to impress Jodie Foster". Jodie's refusal to talk about the incident publicly for so many years absolutely helped distance herself from the whole mess. It's so awful that she had to go thru this.

I'm reminded of how my altered perception of things being easier if you had such big success at a young age is when I watch things like this. It's amazing how unconscionable the press is to an 18 year old young woman. I was quite different at 18. I sure as hell couldn't have handled a press conference period, let alone one of this caliber.

anybody interested in this story should see the special features on the Taxi Driver DVD. Paul Schraeder discusses the deep impact of the "God's Lonely Man" in the Travis Bickle character. Schraeder touched a nerve with that character that resonated deeply with a whole bunch of isolated, alienated men in the 1970s.

what amazes me about Jodie Foster is how much she has been in control of her life & career from the earliest phase of it, an industry which is so eager to exploit young women & especially ones starting as kids or teenagers, it unfathomable to see how Jodie turned out on the other side of the picture. Yes she's a genius, an exceptionally gifted mind & artist but she also is someone who was hypersexualised as a teenager by hollywood studios which contributed in developing multiple stalkers for her. Jodie Foster is that rare success story of Hollywood which one wishes to achieve & after 55 yrs in Showbiz I'm glad she's still going stronger.

All John Hinkley had to do was get the point that if you, as a nobody, try to seek a date with a Celebrity, you will be automatically labeled as a stalker. Has there ever been a case in history where a Celebrity was ever labeled a stalker for trying to seek a date with another Celebrity? No? My point exactly. The worst case scenario is that the other Celebrity will say I'm not interested, and that's the end of that. So because you are a nobody - or of peasant status - if you even try to seek a date from a well-known celebrity, or you are not connected, then the Celebrity will ignore you, and if you persist, you will be taken to court for stalking. So all John Hinkley had to do was be a musician, be a filmmaker, or be an actor, go multi-platinum, or make a blockbuster, and "BOO-YA". A huge Celebrity like Jodie Foster would've been pleading to be his date. Maybe the next nobody - or the next peasant - will learn that lesson rather than do something this stupid that will lead them to prison for a very long time.

You wouldn't like it. Maybe you'd leave. I don't know. I don't really want to go away...I like your posts of course. :-) And you. So, what's a girl to do? I am a bit submissive so you are more than welcome to take charge and even show me who is boss. But then again, I only like so much of that before I have my fill of it, too. It's a delicate balance. Just like some, then reply some. You easily do it with others. I should be no different. If I am, why should I be?
