I had the pleasure of having a phone call with Bas a few years ago. It started out as a business call but once he realised I was an MMA nut, he enthusiastically stayed on the line with me way past our topics of business and just shot the shit about the UFC for about half an hour. I'll never forget that. Very cool guy.

As a kickboxer in the 80s I learned how to throw leg kicks from a Muay Thai fighter. It was a new area for me being that I was a Black belt in TKD. I was amazed as well as hooked on throwing leg kicks. But I was no where near the subject of this vide as far ads power. Later hen I became a cop I got into a legit fight with a drug dealer. He landed a punch only for me to retaliate with a leg kick. His body immediately crumbled. From that point putting hands cuffs in his was like taken candy from a baby! That was 36 years ago, I have tried to locate the Muay Thai fighter to thank him sadly the years that have passed made that desire unsuccessful.

Me and a group of my buddies used to get UFC and WWE PPVs pretty much every month starting in the late-90s - sometime in 98 or early 99 - and we did that for over a decade. We saw A LOT of great fights in that time. That was a great time for the UFC.
@dannyd8625

We did that too with the UFC. About the same time frame. Good memories. Back then PPV's weren't available in small towns. At least in my area. We had to go to a friend's house that lived in a bigger city. We did that for about 10 years. Little by little everyone went their separate ways. I thought Tony/Khabib might get us back together. I'd send clips of those guys. The response was positive. Looked like we might all get together for a PPV. If they would have had it the November before covid, it would have happened. Instead they delayed it to April, and we all know how that turned out.

I was 6 years old when I saw my first MMA fight and it was Tito Ortiz vs Evan Tanner in 2001. I remember some UFC video game commercial came on that had Tito in it and all the older guys were getting hyped and saying he was going to destroy his opponent. The fight ended in 30 seconds with Tito slamming Evan so hard it knocked him out. Everybody was going crazy and I was in shock because this jacked light-skinned man with blonde hair and flames on his shorts just obliterated another grown man. I loved watching UFC Unleashed and Pride on Spike TV, and WEC on Versus growing up.
