This is why guys like Joe, EVH, Hendrix, Clapton, EJ, SRV and a lot of other classic rock guys are so great, because they know the guitar so well and can get all kinds of great sounds out of it with minimal effects. They understand phrasing and timing so well and naturally, that those guitars actually talk and sing when they play. Doesn't matter whether it's blistering fast leads or slow solos, just sounds great because it's all from the heart out the fingertips. Groans that words cannot express. The average person listening is moved when they play and inspired! Joe is legendary!

In my humble opinion had Joe been out in the 60's 70's or 80's, he definitely would have compared to any one of them at the time. Just because he's younger and wasn't around at the time doesn't mean he can't be compared to them. Actually guitar players of today have an advantage because they can learn from the earlier greats due to advances in learning resources. More out there today to learn from than just using your ears while putting the needle back on an old record, or pressing rewind and play over and over again. Granted the early guys had to figure all that without any help, so they get extra props for that. Joe remains an ambassador for guitar going into the future. He is thoroughly dedicated to it, and has the chops to prove it.

@@aguitarrman5867 He wouldn't have been known. He's not a good songwriter. Songwriting was and is the gateway to get people to hear your guitar playing. It's why people know Jack White but not anyone from Dream theater. Dream theater guitar nerds are way better technically but no one gives a shit bc technical prowess alone isn't fun to listen to.

I can never understand why people get such satisfaction in tearing someone down. Success doesn't happen by accident, it's often a combination of skill, technique, determination and luck, with one of those sometimes being factored in more but not always. This can be said for any career. If I'm getting something of value from this video, it's great, if not not s lot of lost time either.

agree.....accentuates evry note clearer. there is a time and place for hammers and pulls though but with his style of musicality , picked notes really do sound appropriate and punchy....
@malcolmnewburn7286

His speed relies on his picking technique which is a lot like Eric Johnson or Eric Gales. Check out Troy Grady and pickslanting. If you choose notes for the left hand based on the right hand approach( 2 or 3 notes per string) then the long flowing runs become very natural feeling and they all flow together using the ‘block’ approach to the fretboard. Good eye noticing that right hand.
@matthewlogan1520
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's what's always fascinated me about him as well. When he does those runs, he picks almost every single note. I have to hammer and pull because I become more and more inaccurate as I try to build speed. Lol! He blows my mind with his capabilities. It's nice see someone else noticing that on here.

BUT, If you haven't tried tuning down (the whole guitar) to Eb ....you MUST do it, if nothing else, just for fun. The guitar behaves differently and all those Hendrix/ SRV licks suddenly sound and vibe like they should.

I find it funny how some people's self worth and validation comes at attempts to degrade the success of others. It is refreshing to see a great guitar player that doesn't take himself too seriously, is honest about where he gets his sound and ideas from and creates music with such feel and emotion. JB is one of the most humble, down to earth musicians to come around in a long time. To add to another post; until you sell out Royal Albert Hall, Red Rocks, or any other venue he's played, you may want to keep your comments to yourself. Too fast! Teaching/learning requires more patience. Nice playing and tone though. As for the whole tuning point he made, it's subjective. Standard tuning with drop D sounds great, tuning down 1 (D#) or two (D) semitones, and tuning down 2 semitones with drop C is very popular. Also, DADGAD and DADADD are interesting tunings. I have used all those tunings and they offer difference characteristics to the sound. I do agree that going lower than this is silly, as the heavy gauge strings would make bending too hard. Anyhoo... Thanks for posting

I don't see anything too fast. This lesson is clearly not aimed at beginners but fellow guitarists who know what is he talking about and playing, so I dont see any issue.

69zenos1 No you are the fuckhead who thought it nnecessaryto share your primitive analysis. I have been playing for 10 years and this wasn't a good lesson, it was okay. Not enough time teaching; more like a guy sharing a couple of tips and then jamming/improvising in a musical masterbation. True story!

Hey goofball.... Just go back and watch a few more times. You think this is fucking magic? It is for reference. You don't get it is all. Now go and practice your posing in the mirror to POISON!!

69zenos1 No I don't think this is magic. I thought I'd clearly pointed that out already. It's advertised as guitar licks, which kinda give the impression of a lesson. It was not a great lesson! "your posing in the mirror to POISON!!" makes absolutely 0% sense. Don't just make stuff up and expect understanding...

this guy reminds me of that one guy at guitar center that plays loud and repeats the same licks over and over saying how good he is at shredding and talking about tone lol

+jay That is like saying the Paco DeLucia sounds like that girl on open mike playing and singing her songs. In your zeal to diminish Joe, you have only killed your own credibility as nothing more than a troll. Self proclamations of your trolling as "the truth" is what all trolls say when people call you on your BS. That misapplied cliche doesn't work. If you cannot tell the difference, maybe you should listen to someone who is more at your speed instead of embarrassing yourself by advertising your ignorance.

Joe is inherently non-likeable. He's a great player but there's a thing with his face where you just see that super fucking dork kid from school and you just don't want him to be the bad-ass guitar player that he is. His ego is a little out of control. He's a great player, I love his playing, but the dislikes here are based on personality interactions and not on the skill or the information presented in the video.

Name one definable instance where his "ego is a little out of control."
