I first saw Joe Bonamassa at Monterey in 2008 and became an instant fan, not only of his playing, but his deep reverence for the genre. Opening that performance he stopped, pointed at a burn mark on the stage that was marked "Hendrix" and told everyone how honored he was to be able to play on the same stage where Hendrix was introduced to a worldwide audience at Monterey Pop in 1967. www.flickr.com/photos/popawoody/2667299064/in/photostream/ This performance from the North Sea Jazz Festival was recorded the year prior to my introduction to him, in 2007, and I have to say it is my least favorite performance. Joe's voice is nearly shot and (very uncharacteristically) he drifts way off key It's almost as if the monitors weren't working. His later performance of High Water Everywhere at the Royal Albert Hall is spectacular. This one is not.

I like Joe's work, but this is about as far removed from the Charlie Patton as I could imagine. Lyrics are substantially different, and the tempo is about 1/16 of what Patton did. Still, a cool song.

This has more views than Charlie Patton, and that is absolutely lame!
