As a lifetime Cubs fan, and more importantly, someone that has always, absolutely, been in love with this sport. This was one of my favorite moments, in one of the most important seasons of my fandom. The strike, just 4 years earlier, had devastated me. That same year, I was an awkward, lanky kid entering high school. My parent's were divorcing; and due to that, my mother was moving halfway across the country. Cherry on top: I was weathering my first romantic heartbreak. It come's in three's, they say. Fast forward to 1998. Baseball was winning back it's fans with a legendary (albeit tainted now) homerun race, before Sammy was breaking bats and hearts; my Cubbies were on the brink of only their third playoff appearance since I had been alive, and second that I was fully witness to; Kerry Wood was a phenom, the next Nolan Ryan, whom had already pitched the best game I had ever seen, on his way to winning ROY; and there was a buzz around, not only the Chicago Cubs, but all of baseball. It didn't even matter that they were swept by Atlanta in the following week: baseball was back. All the way. I was now a freshman in college. And it felt as if the future, for everything; the Cubs, the sport, and for myself, couldn't be brighter. I was in love with life. Nothing could ever touch that feeling. A combination of naivety, hope, and confidence. A sense that everything was going to be, not only okay, but good. Of course, life happened, and that feeling was eroded, hammered, and washed away- only coming back in fleeting moments. But, the memories of that autumn still make me smile, and I am glad that I lived it.

@@rolmodel12. ''It come's in three's, they say'' lol, I don't think you learned when to use an apostrophe. ''It comes in threes'' not ''It come's in three's'' also... My parents not My parent's...the apostrophe would be to indicate ownership, like if you wrote ''My parent's divorce'' ...did you ever graduate? lol
