@@weirdo5555 YOU ARE SCANDALOUS. After their Divorce, DiMaggio underwent therapy, stopped drinking alcohol, and took up other interests beyond baseball. He and Marilyn remained close friends after her marriage to Arthur Miller ended. They read poetry together and he was always there for her. *_He did Not Beat her and treated her kindly._* She joined him in Florida where where he was a batting coach for the Yankees. They reconciled and a few days before he was just about to ask her to remarry him she was found Dead which Devastated Joe DiMaggio.

So if Marilyn Monroe, who cut her ties with many friends and associates who let her down over the years, kept Joe as one of her few trusted friends, then I believe she knew he would be kind to her . The reason that people are mentioning MM in a video about Joltin' Joe is because they were so intertwined with each other. He loved (more like adored) her so much, that he never remarried. He did mistreat her during their marriage, but, being a true man of principal, went to therapy to help control his jealousy and anger. They were both the best at what they did, and somehow found each other. That happens so rarely. They were two halves of a whole, and were as close as two people could be at the end of her life. They had planned on remarrying before she passed. His last words, according to his attorney (who was present when he died) were, "I'll finally get to see Marilyn (again)". This in no way diminishes the interview with Joe in this clip, because it was such an important part of his life.

Thank you for this comment on Joe and Marilyn. I totally agree with you. Plus, Joe never spoke publicly about her, or capitalized by writing a tell-all book on their *private* relationship. He was the person who banned all Hollywood people from attending her funeral, he picked her body up from the morgue and stayed with her. He was a troubled man, a temperment and jealousy but he did love Norma Jeane. Never once did he sell her out in the years after her death. In them days it was no uncommon for women to put up with brutal tempers of young men. Sad but true. It seemed he worked on himself and Marilyn loved him again.

I doubt the hit streak will ever be broken, especially given the current emphasis on drawing walks. Pete Rose has the second best streak of the past 100 years, and it was 12 games shy of Joltin’ Joe. And, don’t forget, after missing one game, he went on to hit in 16 straight. Quite the year, 1941, with Ted Williams also having the last .400 season. I doubt anyone will ever again do that either.
