When u have a group of jazz trained players... Content to blow people away with flat out rock...your confidence level may b so high there's always the risk of "too hip 4 the room". Don't think Joe Jackson ever worried much about it

Mike: I've followed his career, and he hasn't lost it at all. Listen to all of "Rain", or if you only have time for a track or two, "Invisible Man" and "A Place in the Rain". He more disappeared because he got highly experimental in the 90's, but starting around 2000 came back to his roots. He's worth the time to re-investigate.

Genius. Never been to a Joe Jackson gig where he didn't find a new twist on one of his old songs, and unlike everyone else, make it even better!

@@marcbryanjacob yup! Joe's jabs here, brilliantly using himself as the joke butt to paint and point the types moral worth, go all the way straight up to the Top ladder, They're, the whole lot all of them, just a bunch of CON-ARTISTS!!! _from the street corner hoods around some Army game table to scam passersby to the big Corporate egomaniacs playing golf at country clubs and having endless conventions conferences at executive CL-ASS resorts

allhailrussell ya, I use a pick. It probably has more to do with pickups. Check that. Probably is a combination of pickups, guitar, amp, strings.

It's always been my contention that basses sound better "picked" than "plucked". Nearly all the bass players I like use picks. I think one of Motown's bass players (James Jamerson?) once said that I use a pick when I want more melody in my playing. I think that's what I like--"melodic" bass playing.

I could never understand why Joe was considered, at best, a peer to Elvis Costello, who seemed to direct his energies in the same direction with bland, washed-out tunes (sweeping organ passages, mmphophonic bass) of no distinction. Joe was miles above this level.
