I’m an old self-employed musician who spent (wasted?) his life playing bars, restaurants, Vegas lounges and Broadway musicals….basically a sell out, I guess. All they had to do was wave a check in my face. Anyway, once I was playing in a lounge act at the Casbah lounge at the Sahara in Vegas and Carlin was in the main room. We had a pretty good relationship with the maitre’d and he would let us in to watch Carlin’s stand-up routine. Years later I’m working at a Holiday Inn bar in Buena Park and Carlin’s staying at the hotel because his wife was working at a local theater. Well, because my band partner and I both grew up in New York listening to do-wop, we’re performing some obscure song by a “one hit wonder” group and Carlin’s out in the audience, hears the tune and comes up to me and asks me the name of the group. I’m completely blown away because this guy’s been my hero since I first saw him on Sullivan in a tux years ago. I tell him that I was in the lounge at the Sahara while he was in the main room and we’re talking like we’re two old friends meeting on a street in the Bronx after being apart for a long time. He was the most unpretentious, down to earth celebrity I have ever met in my life…..and incredibly talented to boot.

I have to agree. As someone who used to do lighting for films and concerts I've met all kinds of famous people, of varying levels. And most of those never amounted to anything. You always catch more flies with honey, so to speak.

When it comes to understanding human nature Williams' plays, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Streetcar, are on par with Shakespeare and Dostoevsky. He was extremely hands on in the righting of his last book/autobiography. Which unfortunately refutes Mr.Rollins on what Bruce's book says. But it's a great book I recommend everyone to read it. You'll laugh your ass off multiple times, and learn shit about him you never knew that's not ever talked about.

He supported The West Memphis 3 getting out. Did they talk about it in a previous podcast? I wanna hear about it from Henry.

Eddie Vedder supported them, also. Respect to those with fame who use their fame as leverage to dig people out of holes of injustice.

He did some songs (Black Coffee, Rise Above are two that I know are definitely on there) on a compilation album that benefited the WM3. I'm 99% sure those are his last officially recorded songs. They were released in 2003, but the last Rollins Band album was released in 2000 or 2001.

I love George Carlin. It's cool to hear that Henry was also a fan of his.

Lenny Bruce and George Carlin were heroes. And Henry Rollins does a near-perfect Ozzy. 🤘🏻

Henry Rollins claims to be from the working class....he's not. I don't get why everyone wants to claim that now.

If you lost your job tomorrow, and stood to lose everything within a couple of months of unemployment, then welcome to the workingclass. It is not about what you do- it's about what you own; your relationship to property. That's why when Henry was working for Hagen-Das he was workingclass, provided the Bank of Mom&Dad wasn't underwriting him.
