Whateverbro are you 12? Let me List a few A Room With a View My Left Foot Last of the Mohicans Age of Innocence The Boxer Gangs of New York There Will Be Blood Lincoln Phantom Thread These are his most popular/best off the top of my head and he’s been in many other movies, while being a picky actor who only works with good scripts usually. I don’t know how you could make such a blasphemes statement like that. Just check his movie ratings on something like rotten tomatoes and you can see that in general he has one of the best resumes. www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/daniel_daylewis/
@Jesusaross
6 жыл бұрын
Many of his movies are pretty niche. And most of those films had pretty mediocre reception. The only movies that picked up some decent traction were 'There will be blood', 'Lincoln', 'Gangs of New York' and 'Last of the Mohicans'. The others are barely known by the general population. So it wouldn't be very surprising to me that many people couldn't name more than like three movies with Daniel Day-Lewis in it. Also, his IMDb page states he was in 30 movies and TV shows, relatively to other big actors, that's a pretty small number.
@user-mq6kd6mf1v
6 жыл бұрын
Whateverbro once again, you said he hasn’t been in many movies and that’s wrong. He has been in plenty of movies, just not a flooded IMDb list like The Rock. You also said his movies weren’t “good” when every single one of those I named are all critically acclaimed and were received very well. You’re confusing it with popularity, which is another argument. But to say Daniel Day Lewis doesn’t have a lot of movies is retarded unless your comparing him to some garavage mediocre actors. He’s considered top 5 actors in the last 30 years and was one of the people who created and popularized method acting. He only works on solid movies as I said before, he’s not a sellout like De Niro doing a Zac Efron movie, or Al Pacino in an Adam Sandler movie. Lewis has no dents in his armor. Read up on any articles about him, you must be a true millennial to not think he’s one of the GOATS

Seriously? Music has devolved so much in recent years, it's tragic really. Look at the so called music icons today and listen to their music. There is nothing there, just 10 people taking credit for writing a song, which literary has a beat that plays trough the whole song and some stupid 5 line lyrics. I mean, if we look at the "popular", "commercial" music from the past, it's made to make money, but there is at least a feel to it, a soul. Now there is nothing . And the more "deep" genres like rock/metal are really dumbed down too and aren't what they used to.

The majority of movies that I watch these days were released prior to 1990. To Joe's point there are TON of movies out there, and frankly the ones that pre-date CGI are just better. As is often the case in art, sometimes those technical limitations help to form a better final product. Practical effects look better on film, and their cost and logistics requirements force the producers to really cut the fat and focus more on story and character.

Copy and paste from Bureau of Labor Statistics, but interesting nonetheless: The median hourly wage for actors was $18.70 in May 2016. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $9.39, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $100.00. Work hours for actors are extensive and irregular. Early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work is common. About 1 in 4 actors worked part time in 2016. Few actors work full time, and many have variable schedules.
@harleyshellhammer9635
6 жыл бұрын
An Actors Insight; Im not sure how they came about getting those statistics, but as a working actor myself in the business for over a decade, along with a few hundred other actors I know from the East coast to the West coast, these numbers are hard to come by being there's a set amount union (SAG) actors make, which means that set number would have to be broken down a lot. The amount of Actors that are even SAG is extremely low, I believe less than 20% of all actors belong to the union. The average actor books (gets the job) 2x a year. I'd say about 5% book fairly consistently, and that's only about 5x per year. Yet, we audition on average about 200x per year. That's a far cry from the median they're citing. Most will only work 1 day on set. If lucky, they may have to do ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement) for a few hours or they get a second day on set. Some residuals as well, which are based off hours worked on the project. In total, maybe about $2500 for just one booking. Commercials are far different, and the money made can be far greater than for film or TV. Booking a commercial is even more difficult for many actors because the type for marketing is narrow. This doesn't count the cost of being an actor. We are our own business, thus we are responsible for our own cost. Headshots ($500-$1000), plus print, Union cost, required website subscription cost, Training, Workshops Travel, Filming auditions, personal grooming (for characters), paying our agents and/or managers, and our own perosnal time vested. Schaub is spot on about the percentages. None of this even counts those who work as Background extras. This is not arguing what you've written, I'm just giving a more real and actual insight into being an actor.

There are a lot of original movies, but they rarely have good marketing, you have to know how to find them . Daniel Day Lewis went from a talented actor in Last of the Mohicans to being The Actor of a Generation, where you went and saw what he was in regardless of genre or subject matter, just to see him practice his craft. That is a pretty big bridge to cross. I mean Robert Downey Jr. extended himself quite a bit, but his stuff, while amazing to watch, was somewhat formulaic, and that sounds a lot worse than I intend it, I love Robert downey jr, and really, what he does on the screen in any one movie, seems really one dimensional, but yet it has traversed a very wide body of work, and is enjoyable to watch in every instance, so really, he is a peer of Daniel Day Lewis, but anyone that "loves film" is gonna give DDL much more gravitas than RDJ. Perhaps that is all in project choices and other fundamental choices made that are not really apparent once the end product hits the screen, but are pivotal to the perception of a person's career after it is all said and done.

Now, you're seeing some AMAZING Breaking Bad level type shows with the hour long format on Netflix, Starz, BBC1, you name it. You can really flesh out ideas, characters and plot when 1 season of a TV show has literally 5 times more content than a movie. I love it.

Isn't he supposed to be James Arnold Ross Jr. from "Oil!"? Are you saying that Ross is Henry Ford?

I find it hilarious that just a few years ago, Joe was bashing actors, saying that they're just good at being fake people, and bashing the oscars saying how ridiculous it was that people took it so serious. Now Joe seems to be quite fond of these people. Not trying to be a hater, but anyone that has listened to his show knows, he's changed. He's Hollywood now.

They aren't running out of ideas. There are plenty of original movies. The problem is that originality isn't a sure sell. You take a gamble when you create something new and original. There's no gamble in remaking a classic, or making a million superhero movies. The average person wants a basic premise, high production value (meaning tons of CGI and explosions) with a happy ending where the hero prevails.

_"Movies don't go away"_ imo movies do go away in that they have a shelf-life. The zeitgeist moves on. The dancing movies of the 50s no longer enthrall big audiences. So too, 1 day, far from now, people will look at the new A Wrinkle in Time movie (IMDB: 4/10) & think *wtf is this shit?*

There are only 7 basic stories and that has always been the case. So it is the telling of the tale that matters most. If you shrink that pile down to the movies we have collectively responded to in some way you got a much smaller pile.

There are plenty of good new ideas. Hollywierd just won't invest in something that doesn't look easily bankable. A lot of stuff from magnolia pictures, as well as original programming from Hulu, Amazon fire and Netflix are very noteworthy. The night manager, man in the high Castle, Daredevil and others are worth the time.

Thought that same thing immediately. Music that is roughly 3ish minutes long and is in 4/4 time with a common tempo and a simple chord progression has also quickly become oversaturated to the point where you can't write a song without making it more complex and unconventional and still produce a hit song without it copying another recording artist's exact same chorus and melody... even if you aren't familiar with the artists music, it will still happen eventually because there are only a limited range of possibilities. The only solution to any of these issues to make things more complex I believe. Like you are never going to see an exact accidental duplication of something by a progressive rock or metal band, where the key, time, tempos are constantly changing and are more complex and overall there are more parts to each song making them longer.
