I want to be accepting, I want to not have bigoted views. But when someone accused me of being transphobic because I said I wouldn’t sleep with a person who was biologically born a man, I really lost the plot. The lady was claiming that you don’t see her as a “real” woman, and I said she’s not. Then I was viewed as Hitler from that point on. Seriously, what is the world coming to. I’m not gay, but my brother is, and I’ve always felt that it’s unfair for you guys. Being gay is just an attraction. It’s perfectly normal. Gender dysphoria is a legit mental illness. Lumping you guys with transgender is just a way to pander to multiple groups at once. I strongly believe the term “LGBTQ+” wasn’t created by a gay person, it was a politician who doesn’t care about gay or trans people, and they certainly don’t care about the opinions of either group, they just want your votes and prefer to pander to both of you guys at once. The same with just calling people “minorities” all at once. My dad is Mexican. My uncle is black. Those are two entirely different cultures, they’re not both “minorities”. These labels are just pandering in my opinion
@xKarenWalkerx

@@bigpapi6688 Mexicans and blacks are minorities there’s many different minorities not just one. That’s kind of the point of why it’s called minorities in plural or “a” minority (as in one out of many). Homosexuality strongly parallels mental illness if you want to bring that into the equation. However, data shows it is strongly associated to pre-natal hormonal environment and insufficient testosterone levels in the womb. Hormones (or lack thereof) drive behavior. It can be said gay men have a very specific personality type, that while not a “personality disorder” it strongly parallels it. However, hormonally not psychologically. “Stereotype” gay men tend to exhibit avoidance, grandiosity, self trashing, attachment insecurity, psychopathy and other various psychological conditions and distortions but on very surface-level superficial ways vs. deep rooted psychological deficits and malfunctions. So, no, it’s not just an attraction. Of course everyone is to be respected but it’s not just that one man is gay and the other isn’t. It’s due to hormonal insufficiency in the pre-natal environment. And as grown adults, both men will present drastically differently personality-wise. You could even call it a third gender, as many cultures the world over have done. Male way Female way Gay way Gender dysphoria is more closely related to problems with Identity as a whole. Something totally different to hormones and homosexuality and the data that backs that up.

In my opinion, Age 16 should be the MINIMUM age to begin a hormonal transition and you should NEVER be legally allowed to undergo genital reconstructive surgery unless you are over age 18 and can prove you have taken specific psychological therapy's with EXPERTS in transgenderism and transitional surgery.

Those who claim gender is not a social construct are often conflating gender with sex; that's the issue. Sex is a biological concept that describes one's bi-modal destitution of reproductive autonomy, while gender is a sociological concept describing social expectations pertaining to masculinity and femininity. Since this is my field of study, I always find it funny how reactionaries on the internet have convinced themselves that gender expectations are somehow biological traits, while ironically accusing others of not understanding biology.
@1yanyiel

@@ScorpionXII Funny how now, historically, gender and sex are conceived as different things. Such an idea never existed, nor the idea of “social construction”, at least not explicitly. I’m not denying that social construction exists, but to somehow claim that an individual’s identification to a particular gender is somehow a process that is not biological in nature, but PURELY “socio-cultural” is beyond absurd. If gender is a pure social construction, which just means something constructed in the mind, why do people care so much about it? If it’s just an idea, a conception, it is entirely arbitrary and a spontaneous thing. Moreover, if it is a phenomena of the MIND it surely must follow the mechanical/neurological functions of the brain. Social construction sounds like it’s transcendental, like it’s beyond the “brain”. Beyond “human nature”. People should keep an open mind and test these claims appropriately, instead of blindly accepting them as truth with no questioning whatsoever.
@ScorpionXII

@@1yanyiel When biologists separated gender from sex in the 1970s, they did so with the goal of separating all that which should reasonably be studied in biology from all that which reasonably shouldn't. Gender being defined in science as a set of social expectations pertaining to masculinity and femininity... such as grooming practices, clothing choices, speech patterns, and so on. If you wish to make the argument that dresses and shaved arm pits are a biological trait and not a social construct... you're free to, but the entire scientific field of biology disagrees with you. Anyways... the issue with reactionaries on this topic is that they have prescriptivist worldviews. The reason why they believe gender and sex are the same thing is because that's what they have prescribed as normal. If Harry Styles wears a dress... he's denying reality; as Candice Owens claimed recently.

@@ScorpionXII Can you at least address my argument. Because I understand what you're saying, I just want to make sure you understand me. I will copy/paste again my main argument. "If gender is a pure social construction, which just means something constructed in the mind, why do people care so much about it? If it’s just an idea, a conception, it is entirely arbitrary and a spontaneous thing. Moreover, if it is a phenomena of the MIND it surely must follow the mechanical/neurological functions of the brain. Social construction sounds like it’s transcendental, like it’s beyond the “brain”. Beyond “human nature”" At least from the evolutionary standpoint, everything that you said is correct. In fact, our social nature cannot exist precisely without our biological sub-structure. That includes the possibility of creating social constructions (Which is just culture). BUT, there has been clear studies on how male and female species show different behavioral tendencies in a very "natural" way. Other studies have shown how men's brain differ from women's brain in certain ways. So what biology is saying is that both "masculine" and "feminine" traits already pre-exist within us and pre-determine certain things about our behavior. It is not a "pure" social construction, it comes from a pre-determined biological structure. So here's the take: biology predetermines some "gender-like" behavior on us, and gender social constructs are things that have been conceived by human beings through many cultures through time and it is BASED on those pre-existing behavioral patterns. It doesn't make any sense either that people naturally, no matter what the socio-cultural background they have, feel a natural attraction identify themselves with a gender in itself. That is exactly the premise behind many parenting nowadays that follow the LGBT community on how to raise their children. Instead of imposing a certain gender, the child will naturally identify with whatever gender during his/her social development. So, with all these arguments laid here, to say that gender is a pure social construction is a very unsophisticated way to look at this, considering how important it is to our "identity" and the very weird/bizarre way it manifests in humans lives.
@ScorpionXII
3 жыл бұрын
@@1yanyiel You could use this logic to argue that pizza is a biological reality because humans created it using their natural brains which gave them the requisite sense of taste that gave them the predilection with which to invent it. It's also important to know that this logic is a naturalistic fallacy; the assumption that all that manifests from natural descriptive traits are by definition objective good/true. It's also an is/ought fallacy because you're drawing a conclusion on what ought to be based on what is; that is... sexual characteristics that lead humans to socially construct gender roles. “Other studies have shown how men's brain differ from women's brain in certain ways” Untrue... all brains are the same, but they develop differently during hormone washes due to a process biologists call brain feminization. “So what biology is saying is that both "masculine" and "feminine" traits already pre-exist within us and pre-determine certain things about our behavior” Yeah just like pizza. Anyways... it seems your naturalistic fallacy is the basis of this entire paragraph so I'm going to skip this. “It doesn't make any sense either that people naturally, no matter what the socio-cultural background they have, feel a natural attraction identify themselves with a gender in itself” This argues the exact opposite of what you said earlier. “That is exactly the premise behind many parenting nowadays that follow the LGBT community on how to raise their children” Gender provides no real benefit to children; especially considering the fact that the gender roles of “boy/girl” has only been a thing for about 100 years. We used to used to assign the gender role of “boy” to all kids, and “man/woman” were assigned to adults only; this is still the case in some countries. All kids wore dresses and were practically indistinguishable from one/another; this was not a denial of biology, this was merely an example of why gender is an arbitrary social construct. “Instead of imposing a certain gender, the child will naturally identify with whatever gender during his/her social development” This is false. Kids naturally identify with whatever social construct that are around them. If that's man/woman, then that's man/woman. Girls behave like girls because every other girl behaves like a girl; it's the same with language. If you're born in Ireland, you're going to have an Irish accent. Capitalism also plays a role in these social construct, since one walk through the toy section at Walmart will give you a sense of how arbitrary gender roles are. “So, with all these arguments laid here, to say that gender is a pure social construction is a very unsophisticated way to look at this” It's the most academically accurate and most philosophically consistent way of looking at it.

As a gay man I connected with one of the ideas put forward which was that these children are likely to just grow up gay. I've always felt a little unaligned with some of the trans community's positions - especially involving children - but I struggle to really find ways to disagree with the ideology without being collectively shamed. LGB people are collectively pressured - explicitly and implicitly - to 'side' with the trans community, any opposition is read down as cis privilege, patriarchal and/or hateful, which is just totally absurd because the concern is certainly not coming from a place of wanting to oppress anyone. I really do feel like parts of the community at this point have been legitimately hijacked.

The "Thaddeus whatever his name is" interview was insane. The whole interview and the guys idea about gender broke down completely. The interesting thing is that it didn't happen because Rogan was trying to "own" him, or played gotcha or attacked his premise. The guy made his "the sexes don't exist, no one is born a man or woman," and Joe merely asked him to clarify what he was saying, that he didn't know what he meant by that and asked him to expand, and that's when everything went tits-up. *-Debate tip: if your argument falls apart when all you're being asked is to explain the argument you're trying to make, you should either find a different one or never bring it up around anyone with half a brain. He didn't even get to the point of defending the argument, just to explain what it was.

Yes, Bill Nye has an undergrad degree in mech engineering. However, he no longer works in the field and hasn't in many years. He left it a long time ago to pursue a television career. "The Science Guy" is a character he came up with-- he's fiction. When he plays the part, he is doing so as an actor, not a scientist. When he talks about things like climate change and human sexuality, he's not doing so as an authority in these areas-- he isn't an expert on these topics. He's a media figure, not a researcher. Recent episodes, particularly the one about gender as a spectrum, have shown a leaning towards progressive ideology rather than science. When a show is peddling pseudoscience, then it's relevant to point out that the information given isn't real science and its host is a character and not actually an expert. It's all part of critical analysis.

Leaning towards a progressive ideology?... I am a progressive for sure but as a logical individual, I do not deny the science when it comes to this issue. I mean, do what you want to do and feel however you want, but that doesn't mean you can magically change the gender you were born with. Labeling all progressives as being science deniers is as logical as labeling all conservatives as being nazis, know what I'm sayin?

"I am a progressive... but." Whenever there's a "but," it indicates that whatever comes after it will contradict what came before. Gender theory has been espoused by mainstream progressive activists, politicians and public figures like Nye. That you don't personally believe it, just means that you aren't in lockstep with them on this issue. However, it is still progressive doctrine. This is fine. Most people don't support their political "side" 100% on every issue. It's more about percentages. Also, to be fair, I think Rogan raises a good point in the podcast, which is that both sides of the political divide practice "selective" science acceptance.

All of the comments here seem to be interchanging the 2. Im very confused. Isnt there only 2 sexes, male and female, and then "infinite", or so they say, genders?

@@antibull4869 No, no it's not... Asking for a percentage if impact on something unprecedented is absurd. it'd be like asking what percentage did the Beatles have on rock and roll in 2020... Well there's a lot of variables. They are %100 responsible in one way, and %0 in another. Some bands may not even like The Beatles but are inspired by a band who was...So what is it? %33, %50? you can't put a percentage on this.
