In fact, Romero committed more often during that fight than Adesanya. Adesanya is most effective as a counter puncher and was unwilling to engage Romero with anything but non-committal leg kicks at distance. Romero did little, but Adesanya did less. Several hard head shots and a take down vs. some leg kicks. No way Adesanya won 3 out of 5 rounds.

People should have known better, Israel is a counter puncher and Yoel plants himself like a tree to have his explosive approach later. Yoel was waiting on Izzy to come forward and Izzy did the same thing with waiting for Yoel. There is nothing to counter if nothing is coming your way and vice versa with Yoel. Their 'styles' didn't match up well. The reason why the rivalry Bobby Knuckles vs. Yoel is so fine is because Rob goes in for the kill and is not waiting on his opponent, therefor you have Yoel who exactly wants this. Same thing against Borrachinha. Izzy did what he had to do just as Yoel. Nothing to be upset about. The Costa thing will be alot different, that's where people will get their kick for real since Costa is a pure pressure fighter and he matches up very well with Adesanya.

Charged forward, run through dmg, then put his weight and pressure and explode on Isreal. He would've won, but he let Isreal play his safe distace game. Yoel has no one to blame but himself to trying to just stand there and counter
@loristnorton3723
4 жыл бұрын
I don't think you have fought people with like 8inch reach advantage over you. That's 2/3 of a ruler, the moment you get in their range to come close for a punch the other party would have already landed a shot and probably retreated. One of the most effective ways to counter act this is tank/block their intiated punch to trade one for your own, else if you were to initiate, openings for your enemy to take advantage of will increase. Hence romero's strategy and you can see it paid off when izzy tried to break his defense one combination and boom izzy never tried to do that again. Which is smart, but you know not what we expected for someone who called the other person out and told EVERYBODY that he would be the one to knock him out. Almost all of the people can clearly say that he didn't even try to make romero submit or knock him out.

Every time Yoel engaged or tried to engage, Izzy took off running. You can tell by the look on Izzy's face when Yoel smashed him in the face with the very first bomb that Izzy wanted none of that and was scared. Ask yourself, when did Yoel Romero EVER have a shit fight before the fight with Izzy? Not one of his fights were boring which is why everyone loves to watch him fight. EVERY fight that Yoel has been in, he activates when people engage with him. That is what brings the soldier of God Romero alive when people engage with him. The more a fighter engages with him, the more violent Romero gets. For anyone to put all the blame on a guy who has literally fought the same way his entire career, is just insane. It takes 2 for a fight. Izzy did not want to engage with Romero and you could tell. Yet he had no problem engaging with Gastelum or Whittaker, 2 prime examples showing Izzy was afraid of Romero. No one wants to see a fight where the challenger has to run around the cage chasing a champion, and that is what Romero would have done if he did anything alts.

I will do what no one alts has ever done, I am going to knock him out and embarrass him"...Israel Adesanya. Instead of backing up his talk, he froze and ran. As far as Romero's title shots for the actual belt, this was only his 3rd, 4th if you include the Rockhold fight where he missed weight by nearly 2 pounds for a chance at the interim, but he still annihilated Rockhold. His other fights, he fought Whittaker twice and then Israel. Yoel's last title fight against Robert Whittaker, EVERYONE including UFC fighters know for a fact that Yoel beat Robert. There is no debate about it. A LOT of people also believe that he beat Robert in their first fight. EVERYONE also knows that Yoel beat Paulo Acosta as well. 3 Big fights where the decision should have gone Yoel's way but didn't. Shitty judges decisions have screwed Yoel unequivocally twice. If other fighters weren't so afraid of Yoel, he would have fought twice as much than he has. Like everyone says, no one wants to fight Yoel.

He cracked Izzy a few times, and he actually did come forward for a lot of the fight while Izzy either stayed on the outside throwing leg kicks, or actually running away from Romero. AnthonyRizzuti but did he effectively do anything with the takedown? No. I get people are mad izzy talked this fight up and nothing happened, but izzy came in expecting Yoel to pressure him like someone chasing a title should, and he never did. With Yoel throwing basically nothing but big punches every now and then, Izzy was forced to switch up and defend, he knew that Yoel would explode if they scrapped at close range, so he kept him at a distance with the leg kicks. What did Yoel do to counter this? Nothing. He stayed at that same distance the whole fight, when he should have been pressuring Adesanya, especially rounds 3-5. No matter what, It was a terrible fight for both of them, and all of us.

He barely won a decision in the most boring fight ever. At least for the belt. He took a dent in this, regardless of how much you twist and turn it. Fighting like this against Romero, wasn't something he wanted. It wasn't a thing he decided (Willingly) to do. It's what he HAD to do, because he couldn't do something else. He is not able to TKO/KO a guy who doesn't engage. Well guess what, a lot of fighters in the UFC are. A lot of fighters in the UFC, doesn't rely on their opponents to do this and that and the other. Adesanya does. CLEARLY. So if Yoel didn't engage, Adesanya would choke. Which is exactly what happened. Adesanya failed his own prediction, due to Romero being awkward. Izzy first debut in 2018 against Rob Wilkinson and win via TKO (Watch the video). And then went in to fight others, as he climbs the ladders towards glory, he got the big fights, Brunson, Silva, Gastelum, Whittaker and now Yoel Romero. Disagree or not, but he’s one hell of a fighter in the middleweight division, probably the greatest. Btw, Izzy won the fight against Yoel, he kept hitting his leg along with defending takedowns against Yoel, but Yoel didn’t do much. Yoel HAD the advantages and power to do so, even one moment when he had him against the fence, but Izzy evaded it, any fighter would’ve escaped that, if you called Izzy a coward for doing that, you would’ve done the same, same for many others.

Apparently Joe did not watch the fight. Adesanya actually turned his back and physically ran from Romero multiple times. Adesanya just leg kicked him the entire time. Romero rocked him very good in the first round, and that scared him, so he just ran from him the rest of the fight. It was a garbage fight. Sure, Yoel Romero should have been a little more aggressive in chasing him down, but never once did he run from Adesanya.
