Well I'm no where near 40 so I guess I wouldn't really know, but yeah the men who do use it seem to love it. People like Rogan can certainly display that. He definitely seems a LOT more youthful than most guys his age. Of course it's not just taking the T, but it definitely helps.

Nice kicks Joe - thanks for posting. Karate, as it is transmitted, changes every few years. This is a common phenomenon. It happens because a teacher must continue to learn and adds his personality to the teachings. There is an old Okinawan martial arts saying that states that Karate is much like a pond. In order for the pond to live, it must have infusions. It must have streams that feed the pond and replenish it. If this is not done then the pond becomes stagnant and dies. If the martial arts teacher does not receive infusion of new ideas and/or methods, then he, too, dies. He stagnates and, through boredom, dies of unnatural causes. Chosin Chibana

Very well said. The traditional martial arts have been ignored for a while, now that everyone is training boxing, wrestling Muay Thai and jujitsu now a lot of people are unfamiliar with traditional martial arts and are unable to defend against these techniques. Look at Steven wonder boy Thomson's fight with Johnny Hendricks. He couldn't handle that karate, kickboxing style, too used to dealing with boxers and Muay Thai guys. It's almost coming full circle, like you said the Gracie's brought something all the traditional martial artists didn't know, jujitsu. Now everyone is focused on Mma's 4 major disciples they don't know the traditional arts like Karate and Taekwondo. I would like to see more capoeira kicks in MMA like the Melaleuca kick. Conor McGregor was training this and tried it on Nate Diaz in there first fight. I've seen a guy knock out a fighter in an amateur MMA fight with this kick. Would like to see this more in the UFC. Martial arts is always evolving that's awesome.

It must be pretty cool for Joe to see lots of TKD techniques slowly making their way into MMA. TKD is a terrible pure martial art, but incorporating it in with all the other striking tools is proving to be really effective.

If you want to learn these techniques just join a school that focuses on Olympic Taekwondo sparring. You will learn all of these kicks and be very good at them.
@Elurin
5 жыл бұрын
Nope, not likely. All of Joe's kicks are staples of what many commonly refer to as traditional tae kwon do (as in ITF, chung do + moo duk kwan, and what the ATA used to be). Olympic taekwondo focuses on speed kicks over power. Biggest difference is how the side kick (most kicks) are chambered and how the round kick (dollyo chagi) is thrown. That's the difference from when Joe learned taekwondo - there was more traditional elements in the WTF style, but since the 80s -> 90s, WTF and KTA have optimized tkd away from traditional tkd (modified Shotokan) into a sport that is built around Olympic style kyorugi

I think another thing you will start to see more of is people blocking more strikes with the heavy part of their elbows. Sorta like the Silva leg break except for arm striking. When I land a really good parry with my elbow into the meat of my partner swinging at me they usually dont want to carry on for a while. Too many people block with their wrists and thats why the head kicks eat through their defense. If they learned to put a structured elbow in the the way and aim for the foot it will hurt the attacker more than the defender. I think as more people see that Nick Newell 1armed mma fighter guy block strikes they will realize this. "Cripple Fist Kung Fu" has hands down the strongest defense and best attaches the body weight.

46 ,47 ,48 isn't even close to old if you stayed in shape from 18ish years old. The reason the comments below make a big deal about Joe's age is they either are young and out of shape since high school or there in there young 30s and are in shape but expect it to be tougher to stay that way in late 40s. I'm in early 50s and just as fast and almost as strong as i was at 25. In fact the older fighter who loses some strength because he trained wrong in the 80s makes up for it by studying fights and technique. You guys in shape will all see and all be really happy at the supplements and new dieting techniques that keep a 50 year old looking 28. Look at Hershal Walker or Bernard Hopkins who just fought at 50 a pro fighter in his prime.
