The problem with "toxic masculinity" is that it is actually halfway there. The problem is *toxic egos* . Whether they are masculine men or feminine women is more just a multiplying factor in the way the toxic ego will manifest: whether by active aggression, passive aggression or even them internalising their hurt rather than dealing with it in a healthy way (this goes for either the perpetrator or the victim of these toxic manifestation of egos.) So its egos, not gender.

Everyone gets so triggered about the term toxic masculinity. It doesn't mean all men or all traits we call masculine are bad it refers to negative societal influences on men that can lead to men doing bad shit. It could be something as simple as a guy slapping a waitresses ass in front of his friends to look cool or divorce courts siding with women far more often than men because of the societal expectation that men aren't as good at caring for children as women. Nobody reasonable is using this to say that men are intrinsically bad or something.

For those wondering, the terms "trans" and "cis" are both Latin terms, and are often used in fields like chemistry. Trans means "different" or "across from," and "cis" means "same" or "same side." In chemistry, the term "trans" is used to describe how an atom is on the opposite side of another atom in a molecule, while "cis" is used to describe an atom on the same side of another atom in a molecule. It's purely coincidence that it sounds like "sissy," and has no negative or positive meaning behind the term naturally.

Toxic masculinity was a term created by the original MRA movement. It was a term to describe how man have problems discussing their feelings with other men. As an academic term it's neutral and valid. It's not an attack on men. It's a reference to a societal pressure, as originally defined by men.
@Egg-wt1pk
2 жыл бұрын
This term created by MRA at time, because they know that sexism against men by blaming it on society is not acceptable. Because of the fake idea that we live in Patriarchy which is created by men and benefits men only. Due to which people often ignore when men put their problem by saying its sexism against men by society. So they blame masculinity for its so that people would give attention atleast. Its already discussed in MRA to give attention to male problems you have to put in that way that its also going to help female then people would give damn about men issue. Men do share their problem with people, but small amount of people like with their male friends sometimes or mostly with their mothers. It's not because men are taught to but its because of lack of empathy towards men and their issues in our society. This lack of empathy towards men is not only limited to humans. Its also happen to alot animal species. Why people share their problem? Because they get support. Men don't share their problem with many people because men don't get support like females get. It's actually physiology fact that men show more sympathy towards females gender then their own and female show more sympathy towards their own gender. Masculinity means to men to be emotionally stronger ie- less likely to get offended and less likely to get dipressed.

Black woman, white woman, white man, ect. Every one was having a reasonable debate an as soon as the white male put in his opinion they turned on him. He was not allowed to have an opinion because he happened to be born male to white parents. As the year progressed I noticed that the most racism I seen was towards a white male. They were being demonized for things and reasons that had nothing to do with them nor was involved in. Now as I look around I see alot of young men who act or try to become something they are not so they aren't targeted for being that which has been deemed "society's problem " and it's sad. I think ‘Toxic Masculinity’ is a very broad term, the way I see it and most people I know see it look at toxic masculinity as the stigma and social concept that ‘men don’t cry’ they ‘tough it out’ and can’t make themselves look weak or vulnerable hiding in their emotions. This later causes suicide and horrible mental health issues as a lot of Men feel afraid to share their emotions due to the social stigma, in that sense of toxic masculinity it is horrible and wrong. Every body cries.

You got it wrong that's not what they meant. They meant men should act like gay men. Soft and sensitive. If a guy plays sports he is considered toxic. If he goes to the gym he is toxic. Anything remotely masculine is toxic. If he wears makeup and cries he is masculine according to the people who use that expression. There is nothing wrong with being masculine and men should just be men. Men don't commit suicide because they can't cry they commit suicide because society as whole is forcing men to not be men but be some woke asshole who is a fucking snowflake.

I’m hesitant to dip my toes in this pool, but I think toxic masculinity refers to the stereotype that we (men) aren’t allowed to be emotional and show feelings, and have to project ourselves as this hyper tough/aggressive person like from an 80s action movie. Masculinity in of itself is not wrong but the caricature of it is what society’s trying to break.
@draconis3
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the toxic part is the feeling that we (men) have to be so tough and stoic that any show of emotion or vulnerability is weakness and shameful. It's what leads to so many suicides among men: they feel they can't talk about the shit they've seen or experienced, not even to each other or therapists, because doing so is an admission of weakness. "Man up, shake it off, bury whatever you're feeling, and move on. You think you're the first to feel this way? Get over yourself. Someone you love died? Have a beer but don't fucking cry about it."

Many make this erroneous distinction. Movies and other popular forms of media show us to not be overly emotional. And, truth is, blaming media you choose to watch for the way you feel is ridiculous. Ideas imparted on you, you won't accept, unless they resonate with you or you were brainwashed. Killing a kid through aggression isn't toxic masculinity, just as smothering a child and killing it isn't toxic femininity, it is just shortsightedness, etc. Also, you shouldn't be overly emotional, or emotional at all in public where business is involved. The same is expected of women.

@delight9311

It's incredible how often people skewer toxic masculinity, without understanding what it's talking about. Joe didn't do anything to address toxic masculinity in this. He just assumed toxic masculinity refers to all masculinity. In reality, toxic masculinity as a concept is much closer to the things men's advocates REGULARLY talk about -- that men are held to unfair standards, told to "be a man and get over it" and are conditioned to suppress emotions, and that it's this aspect of "what a man is" that we need to do away with. Men kill themselves at a much higher rate than women, and a lot of it has to do with men feeling unable to meet the standards expected of them by society as men, and without the emotional support system that women have. This is EXACTLY what toxic masculinity is about. Fuck people, just read. Men are literally skewering the very topic that they are BEGGING society to talk about and help them with, all because they don't want to read into what is actually said. But okay guys. Let's just have more men die because you want to be some cultural brand of "anti-woke" that smacks away the hand trying to help them on the exact issues they are begging help for. It's literally a concept that arose out of a men's movement. It happens to be beneficial to women for men to be mentally healthy in society, so feminists have taken it on, but it is a MEN'S CAUSE. Fuck.

I understand where you're coming from, but damn that was not very articulate. I'm on that boat and I don't deny that "toxic masculinity" exists. I grew up around it, and I suffered the terrible consequences of it, and even became somewhat distanced from all masculinity because of it. But the irony is that a lot of women have also decided to redefine masculinity themselves and it's become pop-psych and buzz-blah. Yeah, men should be able to express their emotions more (and need therapy, which is why we need M4A), but part of the "toxic masculinity" aspect sort of excludes men themselves. Most men cry less because they have less estrogen than women - I rarely saw my mother cry and looking back at it, it makes sense, she has more testosterone than the average woman. Manhood does need to be re-defined though. But PC culture has put men on the outside looking in. Go on so-called "progressive"/"feminist" social circles and they openly mock male issues and even male mental health without realizing the irony. We don't need another Red Pill or MGTOW or #MeToo or #YesAllWomen moment, we need men to be there for each other and have empathy.

So I told everyone, and she went crazy... I clashed with a skateboard to her legs, and she started to say things like "I'm goin to kill you, I'm going to call my father, my brother will punish you". Her brother did nothing but protect me, and then they realized how abusive she was. In school most kids specially masculine o big boys are discriminated, talked down, sometimes the girls make them play the things they want, if not they make FAKE ALEGGATIONS or call the teacher... In my family and friends, most of them got affected by that, and they lost their identity and personality, that's why they have no dreams in life. That's why most boys grow into grumpy, isolated, easy to manipulate man... That's feminism... They want us to be vulnerable prey. They don't care if we go to jail for a fake allegation, if we have to kill someone for them without asking questions, if we go to jail for killing an innocent man... If we don't do this, they shame on us.

might be an unpopular opinion in the comment section, but I view toxic masculinity as men discrediting other men's manliness because they aren't inherently manly. Like me for example. I'm not a fem by any means, but I'm not into the typical things that guys are into like cars, fighting, or sports, and men discredit me as being gay or feminine or lesser just because im not manly. I'm a skinny dude that kinda just does his own thing, but I'm made out to be less than rather than equal, and I feel like THAT'S what toxic masculinity is.

If some person/group’s argument seems extremely stupid to you, it doesn’t automatically mean that that person/group is stupid. It could also mean that you don’t completely understand their argument. Toxic masculinity is not criticizing all males like Joe seems to think in this video, but is directed at those traits that make (some)men awful human beings. Sure the same traits could be present in females too, but toxic masculinity attacks the traits and not men possessing them. If I were to classify all traits into 2 boxes - masculine and feminine, then toxic masculinity refers to those negative traits in the masculine box. Masculine does not automatically mean males. Every human being in this world(male and female) possesses masculine and feminine traits. For masculine think - ambitious, dominant, assertive, and for feminine think caring, nurturing, compassionate, understanding. Clearly and obviously we have assertive and caring men and women in the world, and so the corresponding traits are not solely present in the corresponding gender. The real problem with these debates is that one group feels attacked because they think toxic masculinity is directed against the entire male community, and when they(rightfully) deny that, it sends a message to the other community that toxic masculinity is a scam, which then infuriates them. If we could just communicate this definition more clearly, it would facilitate better reception of ideas. When we say toxic masculinity, it refers to the point when those qualities like assertiveness and dominance take over to the point of being indifferent towards other’s discomfort/pain - thereby not displaying signs of caring and compassion. You see how masculine and feminine traits complement each other? It’s absolutely essential for every human being(males and females) to possess a good balance of both masculine and feminine traits so we can best understand other people’s emotions as well as achieve something meaningful in life.
