14-year-old, Johan, who recently completed treatment for a brain tumor, recently had his wish granted on February 14th - Valentine's Day!
Johan chose one of our most unique wish category types - TO GIVE - out of the five the organization grants including: To go, To Be, To Meet, and To Have.
The heart of Johan's wish was to bring joy and smiles to children facing similar challenges like what he experienced during his own medical treatment for a brain tumor. He hoped to bring joy and strength to children currently going through treatment, and he hopes that with the video games, pajamas, and board games, they’ll be able to have as much fun as possible during their stay at the hospital.
The highlight of Johan's wish day was to hand-deliver custom cupcakes - In NY Knicks colors and Valentines Day themed - to each patient currently being treated at the hospital.
Wish Coordinator, Nancy Stricker, who assisted Johan during the experience shared that Johan would high-five all of the younger kids and would tear up and cry with the older ones - knowing firsthand how challenging It can be to be Isolated from family and friends during the treatment process. It truly was an Inspirational wish and so heartwarming to see a wish kid helping other kids.
We are thankful to have been able to grant this once In a lifetime wish in partnership with Westchester Medical Center & Maria Fareri Children's Hospital and the Child Life Team.
