With music there is always something new to play and explore. I'm indebted to all the friends and contacts here on KZitem, on Facebook and elsewhere who appreciate and encourage me to continue my journey around the endless resources music offers, in particular the organ repertoire which is considered to be the largest and oldest repertory of all musical instruments.
Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) was a German composer, organist, and teacher who brought the south German organ tradition to its peak. He composed a large body of sacred and secular music, and his contributions to the development of the chorale prelude and fugue have earned him a place among the most important composers of the middle Baroque era.
The Magnificat Fugues were all composed during Pachelbel's final years in Nuremberg. There are 95 pieces extant, covering all eight church modes.
