What a RELIEF to hear it read without a howling American accent as in other videos. Thank you.

@ulkerakkoyun7480

@@ConsideringPhlebas What I think is irrelevant. What is understood by it conventionally matters. In fact, there is not much to be explained. Reconstruct means to rebuild or reassemble something. This indicates an iteration of a previous state. And linguists call reconstructed pronunciation what was the historical way a word would have been pronounced. So basically what you wrote was tantamount to "It is probably more historical than the historical peronunciation" (or what thousand of liguists have found to be the original pronounciation) and caused much intellectual agitation for me, so I had to intervene.
@ConsideringPhlebas
4 жыл бұрын
@@ulkerakkoyun7480 Yes, well, you may have noticed that I put "reconstructed" in quotes. This is because, apparently, 'reconstructed', in the parlance of many scholars, equates to pronouncing Greek in an American accent while simply articulating the theorized Koine-era diphthongs, vowel and consonant pronunciations, spiritus lenis and asper breathings, etc. The irony of course being that no-one ever in history would've spoken such a 'historical' pronunciation.

John 1:1 is translated by the Jehovah's Witnesses as "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was *_a_* god"; is this an acceptable translation to make? (From what I've learned about Greek, such a translation is not acceptable - but I'm unsure if that is correct.) Thank you for these videos, by the way; they are greatly appreciated!
@readingthebibleingreekwith679

Thanks for this. Greek uses the definite article with proper names. The noun for God (ο θεός) is treated as a proper name that's why it's capitalized. Beyond this, θεός is a predicative noun here, so no article is required. So, best to translate "... and the Word was God."

@@readingthebibleingreekwith679 Go to John 4:24 and see the exact same grammar used to say God is "A" spirit. Proof positive that the Logos was "A" God. The trinitarian view is tainted with pagan roots that stop at nothing to twist any scripture into subjection.

@@MB-zn9vg Many Greeks are atheist even though they can muddle through koine Greek somewhat. Most Greeks cannot relate to the old grammar and many words are no longer in use. They are taught what to believe by the orthodox church. They are victims of doctrinal thinking the same as the English speaking world. Israel is full of atheist Jews even though they can read the Hebrew and many Greeks are atheist even though they can read Greek. So do I know more than Greeks? The answer is YES in many cases because I know the truth about God and I didn't have to be born Greek to get that knowledge. Learn what the Bible teaches, not what the popular doctrines would have us believe. The truth is hidden from the wise but easily revealed to the humble.
