I caught it originally here in Tokyo on cable movie channel. I fell in love with this movie. Later, after I posted a scene from it back in the early 2000s, someone in Sweden wrote to me asking if I had a copy and could I send it to her for her mother. I had taped it off TV and made a copy for her and sent it. She received it and she and her ailing mother enjoyed the film very much. She was so thankful, brought tears to my eyes. Truly a magical film.

A nice small film that sneaks up on you. Mia Farrow is the unhappy housewife, Topol is the detective, and Michael Jayston is the husband. I met Michael Jayston about two years ago at a Doctor Who Convention. (He played the Valeyard.) He's quite elderly now and rather deaf. I asked him about his 1973 performance in a BBC version of Jane Eyre. He's rather proud of that performance. If I'd had known he was in this film, I would have asked him about it too. I saw this movie a long time ago on TV, and it is haunting.

I am so happy I came across this movie, it is super charming and very, very special, I mean it stays with you forever, it really reaches your heart. The actors are brilliant, the music is haunting and so romantic, the atmosphere is hypnotising and Michael Jayston is so handsome. The dance scene is simply adorable. I watched this so many times and never get enough. KZitem has been blocking it worldwide, this is why no one knows about it.

A truly delightful and memorable film, Topol rarely better and Mia also a delight. Such a clever premise too. Loved it as a young man, my wife loved it and now our daughters love it. Such a lovely haunting soundtrack to a tale of misunderstanding. If you have not seen it, it's worth finding.

This is the soundtrack to a very sweet movie starring wonderful actors. It did not do well enough @ the box office to be put out, eventually, on DVD. I was shown on TV channels back in the 70s, but then disappeared from view. A DVD is now very recently available in the UK using European standard DVD, thus most American DVD players will not play it. I have a DVD player that seamlessly plays both European standard and American standard DVDs. I sent for a copy of this movie on DVD from the UK and it arrived @ my home in America yesterday. I just played it today and found this movie to be just as delightful as I remembered it to be.

Thanks for Upload. In Japan(I am Japanese) , this film is one of the symbol and memory of youthful age for many people in same generation (may be orgin at least for me) . This film gets Mega Hits in early 1973 in Japan and theme song contimuously hits for one years. From radio we could listen to this theme agian and again especially in midnight. Unfortunately in foriegn country it could not capture mind of audience. it is pity. Anyway in Japan this film can be seen until 70th end(probably) in some theater in Tokyo and soundtrack album has been sold for 6 or 7 years from film opens (Victor Records). I saw this film several times (at least third times) in the theater. Box office is filled with smiles and tears of "Happiness" (not saddness ) . It is very rare movie. By the way everyone was very surprised that this sentimetal theme was written by John Barry (famous as Bond composer in that period.).

It is amazing to read your comments because they are very similar to my experience. But I was living in Iran at the time this movie was released and I watched it a few times in theaters and have never forgotten how it made me feel good at that time. This proves to me that human emotions and feelings are almost the same regardless of the country of residence and the culture under which we are brought up. Now, I live in the USA and have tried to find the DVD copy of this movie without success. One last note, John Barry's most famous theme is "Born Free" but I like this theme more than any of his other themes.
stunning, melancolic, mesmerising, captivating, hypnotizing, what else...... thank you John Barry, Topol, Mia Farrow for the beautiful music and charming movie. A soft reminder of the beautiful 70's and 80's when Music and Movies made sense

Because I'm often going back and checking stuff, I'm slowly transferring my 70s diaries to a digital form and on May 14, 1978 it seems I watched this film on TV in the UK. I was 20 then and rarely noted down films but it reads... 'Great'. Not quite a Barry Norman appraisal and though I haven't seen the film since, it obviously touched me in some way. I even have a couple of small newspaper TV listings clips re the film also in the diary, along with a scrawled note where it seems I was trying to work out (from record release sources of the day) who sang the theme. Listening to this soundtrack now I think I need to get around to seeing it again sometime to see what this nearing 62+ year old will make of the sound and visual combination now. Thanks for uploading.

@@cosdrag8807 - films like this, which tried to grasp the "Zeitgeist" of a particular period, have the shortest shelf life. I've found this to be true especially of the "cool" films of the 60s, a decade I did indeed live through. I find it easier to watch beach blanket movies than stuff like this that takes itself seriously. Your own post indicates you've never seen the film. I caught it on TCM several years back...wait for it! John Barry did so much BETTER work than this cheesy pop score.
