John Barry Was The Only Film Composer That Could Score A Bond Film Properly. His Scores Always Fit Like A Glove!!!

John Barry's scores were always top-notch. I think David Arnold did a great job too. Arnold's version of the James Bond Theme is one of the best versions of it in my opinion.

Barry’s music was an essential part of the Bond character on film and set the tone for the world 007 inhabits. Doesn’t feel quite right without Barry...

Of course John Barry could do it right. He was doing it since Dr. No

The best composer, but not the only composer capable of scoring Bond. Listen to the soundtrack from TSWLM by Marvin Hamlisch. Bond 77 is a work of art.

True, although there are many other composers who did a fantastic job too imo, Arnold, serra, Newman etc.

One of my first James Bond movies. It was simply magic - sitting there in the cinema; A wide eyed 15 year old; mesmerized by the incredible world of James Bond up there on the silver screen; Roger Moore the epitome of sophistication and suave. And John Barry's music taking me to a place I would never come back from.

I love this score. I hadn’t seen this movie in ages but luckily caught it on Netflix recently, which is rare for Bond to be streamed. That last segment in Germany reminds me how much I love this entry in the series. It’s like a proper thriller movie at that point, even with the clown suit. The train -> car chase -> circus is thrilling. Bond actually does quite a lot in this movie action-wise too.

Yeah. The score is one of the better Barry-Scores, especially in the later years, where Roger Moore is Bond. While I would say there are quite a few comedic elements, the movie is more of a tragedy or serious tell. That is what makes it so good, that it mixes action and humor.Normally Moore´s Bond isn´t as brutal or intense, but this one is, without losing the lightheardedness from time to time. Also the emotional motivation for bond is optimal. It feels like he is actually invested, because of SPOILERS. And lastly, the climax in Berlin is thrilling. I think it may have even worked for a Dalton or Craig Bond Movie, Minus the clown suit. I mean, a second later and Spoilers ahead: All of East Berlin would have been blasted away. Not to mention the last part on the plane, which reminds me of Dalton on the Trucks in License to kill.

Octopussy is my alltime favourite Bond movie!!! Awesome stunts, good humor, dangerous indian henchmen, multiple fist fights between a lot of people, great cast, amazing music! What do you want more!!

1:44 is the equal of "He's dangerous" in A View to a Kill. The action theme I believe it is.

John Barry could always kill it with the leitmotifs.

@@Thicc_Cheese_Dip It's the leitmotifs coupled with the unique, jazzy chords - and of course, the orchestral textures. Only Herrmann and Elfman come to mind as being so iconic and form-fitting to their films! John Barry was a master! :D

I think this iteration of the bond theme is the best one. When that triangle starts and the violin staccato begins, I immediately think Roger Moore era. Very sleek.

@@alexthewoo it's a thin line. Bond shouldn't be politically correct, but he shouldn't be too offensive either.
