I use to watch Nick, John, Doug Killmore & Greg Elmore play this at all their shows at The Saloon on Grant Ave. in North Beach. San Francisco. in the late '70's before John passed. Man, the music that FLOWED on that street in that small part of the world. Glad and proud that I was part of it.

@@written12 Thanks. For some reason he's been on my mind a fair bit recently. Michael was a very talented musician in his own right though (like many) derailed more than once by the seductive attractions of drugs and alcohol. By the time he finally managed to get clean & sober for good he was back in his native Netherlands. In his maybe "third career" there he gained great respect and reknown, primarily as a skilled and authentic acoustic blues player. From 5 or 6 thousand miles away it looked like a much simpler (and in many respects less chaotic) than the life where we first met, San Francisco in the '70s. My spouse and I enjoyed an extended sojourn in the UK and France in 2018, and I was planning to rent a car for a side trip North to reconnect in the flesh. Unfortunately, Michael's body ran out of steam a few months before our trip, so I missed that chance. But he's one of many who will own some real estate in my heart until MY dying day.

In 2 months, I'll be going to the UK to celebrate my time with Steve Miller with a wonderful band of killer British players. But after all my years of working with John, I insisted on this being included in the set list. Glad I saw this version: Johnny really kicked it up a notch on the solo and I'm going to do my best to follow suit when i do it live. I'm rehearsing it this Tuesday and, while I've listened and tried to nail that tone and energy of the original QMS LP solo on this song....nobody does it like John. (But I'll be doing my best, you crazy fucker!) Man, I miss him. We roomed together on the road and god help anyone within 100 yards of our room.....ahhh, the noise, the debauchery!!!

John Cipollina was one of the truly great rock guitarists and to this day does not get the recognition he deserves. Quicksilver was my favourite band of the sixties and Cipollina's guitar playing was the most distinctive and exciting of all his contemporaries. Nick Gravenites is another artist who does not get the credit he is due for his contributions to rock music. A great vocalist with his own distinctive sound he was an integral part of the Electric Flag and his collaborations with Mike Bloomfield and John Cipollina, amongst others, has produced a truly memorable musical legacy.

John was one of the hardest working musicians I ever had the pleasure of meeting. It was at a really small club when I had the pleasure of meeting John for the first time. Really nice guy and asked me more questions about me and what I did then I got a chance to ask him. He was truly interested in what I did for a living. I was working for Fast Glass in Berkeley at the time. Mr. Skins (from Spirit) was hangin' out too with us. There wasn't too many in the crowd that night but John acted it was the last time he was ever going to play again. Many more times came to be that I got to hang out with John and I loaned him a windbreaker that I never got back. Thanks for showing an interest John and Nick is very out going too. Barry & Nick used to trade off The Saloon until their own doorman wanted to welcome basically everyone in the building and for free.
