Yes Rich. Thank you for this. One I remember, but only just. I have fond memories of Conteh, as his was the first pro fight I ever went to, with my father, when he beat Les Stevens. Appreciate you. Bless up bro

That must have fun to to see live...Conteh was popular here in the US as well judging by how many articles I've seen on him.

Conteh is my fave British boxer. He knew how to box but more than that, he knew how to fight. His defence of his title at the old Liverpool stadium was immense.

I didn’t see this bout at the time it was fought, but was told that Bennet was good and Conteh got lucky. Seeing it now I realise I was misled, Bennet looked good at distance but Conteh always had the upper hand in close. The champs attacks were always going to prevail.

Great performance from Conteh. Showed he could fight on the inside when he needed to.

Conteh...what a stud in and outside the ring. He was the ultimate, jet-setter toast of the town. Parties, models, booze, drugs and friends like Paul McCartney and Elton John. It didn't get any better than that. Devilishly handsome player who burned out too soon. His last great battle against Saad Muhammad was an epic fight but in the rematch, JC was an empty shell, unable to take a punch and with a useless right hand. But oh man, he knew how to live!

Monzon was a natural middleweight and would have never go up in weight. A lot of people will get angry about this comment but Conteh would have given Roy Jones Jr a tough bout.

It's a shame that Conteh did not unify vs Galindez. Hopefully we don't see Bivol vs Beterbiev become that fantasy matchup like in recent times between Kovalev vs Stevenson

Sorry to keep bothering you. But I believe Conteh had trouble making the 12st 7lbs light-heavyweight division. If there had been a cruiserweight division at the time, he would of reigned for a helluva lot longer. John was stripped of his title for refusing to fight Miguel Angel Cuello. Then he had 3 unsuccessful attempts to regain the title against Mate Parlov, and twice against Matthew Saad Muhammad, formerly known as Matt Franklin. And what a warrior he was.

Never heard of Carlos Monzone - was he any good? Carlos Monzon was a great fighter, but as he was two weight divisions and 14 lbs lighter than Conteh, I assumed you couldn't have been talking about him....

Monzon was a middleweight and Conteh was a light-heavyweight. There are weight classes for a reason. 😂 Whether Monzon moved up or if they both fought at a catchweight; Monzon would have a noticeable weight disadvantage that he’d need to overcome.

Harry Carpenter is one of the worst boxing commentators I ever heard. He has the kiss of death about him. He states a boxer is doing well then the same boxer gets knocked out. Thanks for posting
