Monsieur Paul Bunyan did de-forest areas in a more 'romantic' manner...while chasing skirts & spitting tobacco. (As portrayed in a French language lampoon version)

Yes well the woods were quieter then and rumour has it he did it wearing a skirt, as he could scarcely find a pair of trousers big enough to accommodate him. That the women thought they had been split with an axe afterward , & whether he chewed tobacco before spitting or not, would certainly have added to sensation or conversely made life much more comfortable for his female encounters. Also it is said that the trees shook at his presence such that when he struck with his axe they would tip over roots and all having become so unstable in the ground? OF course it was a mere rumour.

Its too bad they couldnt use the topsd and branches for mulch or paper .
@Alexilund

In some cases when the market allows for it, they do use it for energy, heating plants etc. and when it is left behind, it evolves as energi/nutrition for the ground, it becomes a fertilizer effekt over time. So either way it has its use.

Alexilund Ya , i bet the rabbits love it .

Jack Mehoff well the eco-system changes, but that isn`t always a bad thing. And within a year or two the ground will be replanted and the circle starts over again. and smaller animals as the rabbit have more to eat thanks to for example new sprouts of populus tremula, which they love more than I love a good steak. And Fraxinus Exelcior which has a antibiotic effect on wildlife. And better low ground branches that provide necessary cover. It is worse for birds but for that we use a sporadic high stump system. Swedish forestry tries to reduce the effects on eco-change.

Alexilund Yeah just seems like a waste, its too bad we cant create a way to grind them into mulch then press them into wood fuel pellets .

Jack Mehoff At this point I am thinking that you are messing with me haha, we ARE grinding it wood up and we are pressing it into wood pellets in Sweden, we are actually calling it PELLETS. You sir made my day!

most of the oxygen is produced by algae in the oceans and also these fast growing spruce forests will regrow quick. So no worries bro ;)
