Changing the AC compressor on a John Deere 2940. Check out the summer sale at Friday Parts: www.fridaypart... Here is the Compressor I used: www.fridaypart... #farming #johndeere #tractor #repair #tools
Boy am I glad I found your video. I just replaced a compressor on our 4420 combine and I was so frustrated on why my new compressor didn’t have the manual pressure port. Deere wasn’t very helpful and didn’t know. I’m glad to hear it’s just an update to the new compressors. Thank You!

AC in a cab tractor is a must in VA. When I purchased my dads 886 I installed AC from another 986 and then added new hoses and a new York compressor. That was in 2009 and its been working great since then. Its not just the heat that is an issue, its the noise and the dust and overall protection. I was cutting hay a few years ago and hit a yellow jacket nest and they covered the rear window but could not get at me. For those that don't like an AC cab, hope you never hit a nest of bees. Good job on the Ac compressor and hope it keeps cooling you.

Thats a good point about the bees nest Randy. I like the cab for the lights when I'm on the road and I like the cab so my kids are safe when they are riding with me

Every farm videos shows tractors with cabs heat and air I was raised up around big farms helped a many farmers they didn't have any cab tractors and worked all day I guess they don't have real tough farmers any more the young farmers most likely make it any more

Mike, our fan just quit in our 7800 last night planting double crop beans. Dads thing is, and I agree, air is a luxury, if it quits just sweat it out. I've done that many times, yea ill admit, its not enjoyable, but just grin n bear the heat n the cab.

Thats great Travis. I get it that your dad doesn't want to get the AC fixed in the tractor that he has other people running, and he is right, it is a luxury. However, its a luxury we want. My dad is in his 70s and had farmed for 50 years. If he wants air conditioning then he is going to get air conditioning. I grew up tedding and raking hay with a 3020 and 3010 then went into the hay mow and stacked thousands of bales and I'm still up in the mow stacking hay every summer so you don't have to educating me on sweating it out. If the AC quit working in one of our tractors then I'm going to get it fixed. If your dad doesn't want to get the 7800 fixed then don't get it fixed.

Nice job Mike. I like Dusty's shop. You guys have a nice building at your farm too, maybe someday you pour a little concrete in there and make quite a nice little shop out of that building is your plan? I actually need an air conditioning compressor for my backhoe maybe I'll see what kind of prices Friday parts has. I always forget all about them until I watch your videos. It's nice to have the gauge set. I have a few sets and a vacuum pump but I have never brought myself to spend the money on an AC machine although we've got enough equipment these days where I should really consider it. But I am a very environmentally friendly guy, so I always make sure when I reclaim refrigerant that I close the shop door before I crack the line loose, that way it all stays in the shop and doesn't leak out into the environment.😂 take it easy Mike

The 2940 AC used R12 freon, now you have to flush entire system, and replace dryer for R134a. It's an "improvement" forced by the government. It is a royal pain, for no reason at all. Best of Luck to you on getting it to work and last! I hope you can get more than a season of use from it . Retrofitting doesn't often last. It really sucks.

How in the world can you afford to spend that much on AC?most farmers i know can't afford that luxury. My brother has that same exact tractor along with a 4430,4040 and none of them have working AC.he just opens all windows and a electric fan doing a of his haying.
@mikep7810

Spend that much on fixing it or just running the tractor with AC in general?

@@mikep7810 AC in general more of a luxury fix than a mandatory fix

@sodbuster518able So how does he knownthe AC is broke in his tractors if he didn't try running it. Basically he ran AC until it crapped out and he didnt want to fix it. To each their own. If you feel that way, then you don't have to run AC in your tractor or get it fixed if it breaks. You say most farmers you know can't afford that luxury. Most farmers I know that have cab tractors run AC and don't make a big deal about using it

@@mikep7810 nine of the AC systems will hold Freon,he at one time had a HVAC tech to add charge to his Milk bulk tank which is a Mandatory repair at same time put freon in one of his JD sound guard body tractors and it only lasted a few days.Dairy farmers have it tougher than you think.Only Row crop farmers have enough money to have luxury of AC.I would bet greater than 60%all 30,40,50 ,55 series have a non working AC system in them.Lets face it 70,s and 80,s R22 systems are Dead by now in all these John Deere Sound guard body's, nobody can afford to upgrade to R134a.

@sodbuster518able Do you know what channel you are commenting on? Do some research. We are a small family dairy farm. The other farms I was saying that also run ac are also dairy farms. Like I said before if it's not feasible for you then don't run it. We basically run 5 tractors, oldest is a 1980 and newest is a 1992. 4040, 2940, 4250, 4055, & and 4555 all have working ac. My brother in law runs 50 series, all his work, my buddy has 40 series and they work, I have an buddy that runs case tractors and they all work.
