Great video! I needed to know if I could get the old and the new replacement lift handle out without further taking apart the dashboard. This was perfect. Thanks you! This is the same for my 300r riding mower.

Thanks. I found out mine didn't break it just popped off the rod. I reinstalled it and then I got epoxy putty and filled in the area behind the rod so it doesn't wiggle or pop off. Seems to be working fine. If it breaks I'll just cut it off and put a new one on.

What is the solution for eliminating the breaking of the handle?

On mine if you don’t snap the control rod into the ears on the lift lever it floos up and down and does function properly.

hey Tom, for the broken lift handle on the John deere 500 series, you mention a permanent fix coming. can you share what that fix is. I'm tired of replacing mine. Thanks Mike

Permanent fix I mentioned will be a 3D printed version of the handle made out of a special hard vinyl. My techie son is working on it.

Can the handle just be jb welded or epoxied to the lift rod?
@OurPassThyme
Жыл бұрын
Mine have broken in such a way to make it impossible to repair. The part is relatively inexpensive considering buying JB Weld or epoxy, waiting for it to set, having to take everything apart anyway and risk the repair not holding together. If the handle were made out of a good metal or even a better plastic like carbon fiber nylon, this wouldn't happen in the first place.

How many hows have ya got on her now? Im lookin at one thats a local tradecin at my dealer. Its a 2013 model that has 1k hours on it. They want $1900,but i admit that i dont know much about these series of mowers and im a little skeptical about buyin a mower with 1k hours on it,but its a great looking tractor. They said its been serviced and is in good running condition. Any thoughts on buying one like that? I e aquired a hilly property to mow thats just over an acre and my current mower isnt up to it. I dont wanna push mow that much,but cant afford but a $2k mower right now.

I have 721 hours on my 2011 x530. I would want to know the service history on the mower regardless of the series or year, especially with 1000 hours. Mine has been relatively low maintenance other than the coils going out at around 600 hours. I replaced them myself and have a video on this channel with the specifics. The pedal hydraulics went out on me once due to a couple broken plastic bushings. Again I fixed that myself and made a video also with the process. Your 2013 has actually been used harder than my 2011 at about 100 hours a year. The last couple years, I have only been putting about 20 hours a year on mine, especially in 2023, as it practically rained and was overcast the majority of the time, preventing the grass from growing! Look at the service history, hopefully there is one, but you can expect to be replacing and spending a couple hundred dollars over the next few years in wear items, like bushings, coils, a lift handle, the hydraulic filter and fluid most likely are due to be replaced, and the home Maintenance kit (Every 100 hours) is now over $70 alone.

M165480 did not fit my x540 which has headlight switch, therefore x540 needs to be 1/4" narrower. Unfortunately, the same part # is listed on John Deere's website.

I would suggest going to partscatalog.deere.com/ and look up your exact model, year, etc and look at the parts list with the picture diagrams. I looked at x540 without knowing your model number, and it doesn't show the configuration you describe and lists M165480 as the # for the lift handle.

My mom has this mower and it's a POS. Motor blew at just over 300 hours. Seat splits, hood cracks, rides terrible because it's too light. Constant problems with power steering. Deck raise height is so minimal you can barely see it move. It gets serviced every year by JD and all these problems keep popping up. Puffs smoke when it starts with new engine. The local JD dealer rips her off terribly. Charged her over $700 for a service and a small tube to be put in front tire and it was delivered to them.

Are you sure it's the same model? My tractor weighs 750 pounds, that's actually quite heavy for a mower. Sorry your mom is having so many issues but that is not my experience with the X530.

Seriously! 15' to loosen two bolts and slip the handle on. Another problem with these handles is that they tip back and won' t allow you to lift without snapping it back in place which is a bit tricky at times. Piss poor design.
@OurPassThyme

At least they could have made lift handle out of a stronger plastic like nylon or even a metal handle that would never break. My son is working on 3D print files to make the handle out of different plastics to try.
