Very informative, I am happy with my x728, which is similar to your x748. Keep up the good work. Your demeanor is refreshing, and production quality is top notch. Thank you.

Great video. Just did my breakin service on my 21 X738 and it was the simplest I've ever done in my life. Totally tool less and didn't spill a drop. Looking forward to your 50hr video.

I have a x500 series jd tractor that is about 4 years old!! Greatest positive is it cuts a very smooth yard!! Biggest negatives are living with a lot of trees little sticks get caught in the pulleys and throw the belt!! The seat is cracking and the Kawasaki has used some oil since day one!!! It is a tough mower and cuts a good lawn for sure!! Best wishes with your nice mower☺️

My understanding is the alloy wheels, fuel tank size, cutouts in the frame, etc. were all part of a weight reduction strategy to keep the X700 series under any ROPS size and weight requirements.

It's always tough to say why changes are made. Undoubtedly I would think some of changes are driven by weight issues. However, ANSI/OPEI B71.1-2017 or ANSI/OPEI B71.4-2017, which I would imagine govern the design of these machines are not publically available. Both documents are behind a paywall of $180 each. I would like to read and review both! I think it would explain a lot. Speaking specifically to the wheels/rims. The alloy rims are M172783 ($219 each) and have a shipping weight of 13.3 lbs. The previous steel rims w/ cut outs were AM146674 and weight 16.06 lbs. So a weight savings of 5.52 lbs on the rear rims alone. BUT the front rims are a different story, the newer alloy rims are ~0.3lb heavier than the old style steel rims. Meaning the overall weight difference is about 5 lbs.

@@mmrbeef I have a an older GX335 machine and snow duty has corroded the bejesus out of not only the front rims but also the step through pan on the operator's station. I on the new X700 series it's a heavy duty plastic, correct?

Do the newest decks come with the center anti scalp wheel? I had to add one to my 60” deck and it made a world of difference. I agree that I’ve never had a more stable mower for ditches. The four wheel drive is seamless.

Following this looking forward to more! Interested in the x758s. Im more of an orange guy but if you compare this to a kubota GR2120 there just is no comparison. Durabilities and the options of this platform is far greater for the money. Just from my research.

I agree with you. I don't like the alloy wheels either. I also wished that they would have kept the HD Field Trax tires instead of the ugly tires they have on them now.

Do you happen to know if the x758 uses sealed bearings in mower deck? What is your thoughts ,based on your experience, of greasing spindles? I suppose if the x758 does not use seals bearings, you definitely want to grease them. But if they are sealed, does it do any good? And if they are sealed, why would Deere put grease fittings on them?
@mmrbeef
3 жыл бұрын
I have not diectly been into a 54HC or a 60HC spindle but I would suspect that the bearings are not sealed. There is a seal listed in the breakdown of the deck spindle. If there were sealed, similar to the style on the older 300 series decks, there would normally not be a grease zerk. Personally I grease when I change the oil ~50 hrs of operation in the summer.

Just got my x758. Do you happen to know where to find the model number on the transaxle? I know it’s a TuffTorq but can’t find the model number anywhere. Only number I saw was just above the drain plug stamped into the housing. That number is K014003852.

Just wondering if you are still planning a 50 hour review/maintenance video?
@mmrbeef
3 жыл бұрын
Yes I am planning a 50 hour review. Unfortunately, for more than just myself and the review, we have received very little rain and are in the middle of a drought in the upper Midwest. I mowed for the first time in almost 2 weeks last night and the X758 currently has 35 hrs on it. That is only 15 hours in a month and a half. Hopefully things improve before too long!

What is the purpose of the little rubber "O" ring on the rod of the steering cylinder? My X738 has it too as do new model X739s. I can move it around with my fingers and for the life of me don't see the purpose for it.
@mmrbeef
3 жыл бұрын
From what I understand that ring is there to prevent paint from getting on the rod right at the seal when the cylinder is painted. This may or may not be the case but it’s what I have been told by several folks and it makes sense.

Does John Deere make the x730 I was told another tractor company makes them for John Deere
@mmrbeef

Deere makes all their own mowers. The X series like the X7’s are built in Horicon, WI. All John Deere garden tractors have been built there since 1963 and the introduction of the 110. The lower series lawn mowers are built at Deere’s Greenville, TN plant. Deere has built mowers for Honda in the past and sold the Sabre and Scott’s brands.

Great info, thanks for sharing! Does anyone know if the actual rral-world turning radius is different on the x750 vs the 4wd x758? There are only a few spots I need 4wd but lots more where I want a very tight turning radius so I want to make sure 4wd doesn't hurt it. Any real-world experience would be greatly appreciated!

I can't speak for the 750 but the 758 does seem to turn as well as the spec says. 28" maybe, I can't really remember. I have a 60" deck so that helps a little. It does turn to a point and then turn more slowly to full lock if that makes sense. Of course the 4 wheel steer really would do much better than either, if you didn't mind gas you could have both 4ws and 4wd. I debated between 4ws and 4wd as I was set on diesel and the 758 is good enough for me.

For the price point you got this mower for you could have gotten a scag turf tiger with a 72” deck since this machine is only being used for mowing.
@mmrbeef

You are correct and I do not disagree with you one bit. There are a couple caveats though, 1) I have a 72" front mount Deere 1445 and I don't need another 72" deck, 2) I have used a lot of zero turns (my parents just bought a new Tiger Cat to replace their worn out one) and I personally don't like zero turns (I grant they are fast and efficient at cutting grass), and most importantly 3) this is what my wife wanted.

The bigger deck would lower your center of gravity making it better on slopes, and if you want to put wheel spacers on to make it more stable the 48 deck won't even make it past the wheels and getting cutting close to obstacles will be hard without hitting the tires! Deffinatle don't go smaller than a 54"!

Yea I don’t need an 758, a 350 would probably work fine but I want one, also worried a larger deck would scalp
