I was there, just a couple of days before, while this band played the Haarlem Concertgebouw. I was on row 1... totally in awe of Sonny Landreth's playing and or course John Hiatt's showmanship. Must have been one of John's most happy concert tours. Totally in his element: good songs, a great band, nothing to lose, all the world to gain. About 'nothing to lose': this was just two years after I witnessed John playing a double-billed concert with Loudon Wainwright III in Enschede, The Netherlands. No more than about 150 people attended. It was right after the 'Warming Up To The Ice Age' album, and Capitol had just dropped John Hiatt as an artist. His life was on the line, his wife was dead, his young kids were depending on him. He just hadn't made the "Bring The Family" album yet. After that concert I met a grim looking, devastated man, clinging on to whatever audience sympathy he could cling on to. "Have A Little Faith In Me" turned that dark situation upside down. No song title is as ambiguous as this one. John Hiatt deserved, earned, and fortunately got, his deal of public 'faith' in his songwriting. ' In this vid we see him letting his hair down. Thanks for uploading it!

That's there a whole lot of talent, yes-sir-ee-sir! John Hiatt, Sonny Landreth (slide) Ken Brothers (percussion) and Dave Ranson (bass). Quite a talented and tight band that one was!

I saw John perform a few times in the 1980s and 1990s, but it was pretty rare in those days that he performed anything live from the pre-Bring the Family era. It's nice to see Radio Girl get a workout onstage with the Goners, as they were a fine band, and Radio Girl was, ironically, one of the few John Hiatt songs to get any airplay on the radio until Bring the Family brought John a wider audience.
