The views into Yosemite Valley (and the 3200 ft drop) make the final NOBO leg of the JMT one of the best trail sections ever! That alone makes the struggle of the entire JMT worthwhile. Great hike and video !!

We agree! But the struggle was real in the knees! 😄

The struggles during the first few days didn't show, but thanks for sharing the reality of how you actually felt. Yet you pushed through and made it! You didn't seem to resupply until you got to VVR, that's amazing! I would have gotten off over Kearsarge Pass to resupply before making the long stretch from the Charlotte Lake area all the way to Muir Ranch...and you even skipped Muir Ranch! But I know you were pressed for time needing to get back to work.

Yes! Thank you! We had hiked a couple times through Kearsarge pass on other backpacking trips so we really wanted to stick to the trail as much as possible. It was a lot but so worth it in the end.

I can not believe how much good weather, to wit: lack of rain, you had. This had to have made a wonderful adventure even more joyous. Enjoyed watching this very much, a great job well done. Cheers!

Just discovered your channel and I'm watching this one first. Carol, your positive attitude is very infectious. And man, what a difference a year makes in water levels and also the condition of the San Joaquin bridge.

Thank you for sharing your adventure - terrific, upbeat attitude, lovely videography.. well done! I’m interested in Durston X-Mid 2 for JMT, and would like to know if you found it difficult to find pitch sites because of: 1. It’s relatively large footprint? 2. It not being a free-standing tent 3. Did you need to use support guys (wind)?
@cesarcarol
Жыл бұрын
Hello Scott! Thanks so much. We found most campsites along the JMT to be big enough for the footprint of our tent. We’re fairly used to free standing tents now but it does require good soil (I.e., not too sandy or soft) in order for the stakes to support the tension from the poles. We only used a guy line once when we camped in a desolate unprotected area just before Mather Pass. We were lucky with good weather but in other trips the X-Mid held up well in wind and rain.

Great video - I’m almost half way through and loving it. Planning the same itinerary for this late July thru mid-August. Which size Bearvault did you use to get from Cottonwood Pass all the way to VVR? 500 or 475? Thanks!

Bought the BV500 and it fits sideways in my Hyperlite 70L above the frame structure. Yay

So excited for you! Yes we did use the 500 and because the first 2 camps had bear boxes, we relied on those for our first 3 days. But after Tyndall Creek, everything was in the bear can. We also made our own backpacking meals which saved a lot of space (and weight) when compared to the store bought freeze dried meals. Have a great time!
