I was surprised at how good this bass was. It has a nice neutral tone that you can mold with how you play it, and the neck is very well made. I am a Yamaha fan for life now

Bought my TRBX304 6months ago, for a measly £255. I was looking for a modern bass with a slim neck profile & as soon as I picked it up I was frankly amazed. It felt & played great & has'nt disappointed. Sounded & played better than basses costing twice as much in my opinion

I own several Yamaha basses and thought the TRBX would be a pile of rubbish but having used a TRBX505 I would say it out performs a lot of boutique basses that are many times more the price. I have used the TRBX in the Studio and it was very solid indeed.

I JUST ordered one in pewter, a 4-string. I haven't touched a bass in over 3 years and I want to get back into playing. And even before that I wasn't ever really great at the bass but definitely I have a good grasp of the basics. So I decided to go cheaper than what I used to play instead of a $500 Washburn I'm going with this cheaper but probably just as good Yamaha bass to re-start my journey in learning to get good at this amazing instrument. I think this is the greatest choice to start and keep until the end of my days and if I get anywhere near as good as these guys I can upgrade to more expensive basses. I'd still keep this one though. And I will be pairing it with a Hartke HD50 amp I decided to get with it too. Wish me luck!

Any bass, that is made of decent wood and components ( doesn't have to be top shelf )- Will sound just fine in the hands of a capable, experienced player. JP addresses one thing here less accomplished musicians ( but more experienced sales folk ) do not: the COMFORT and EASE of playability. I just stumbled over a 505, and although I would swap some stuff out, and mod other stuff, for the price, it beat everything else in the store for comfort and it still sounded just fine stock-- long live Yamaha - and JP is a beast!

I have this bass, and although I prefer a passive raunchier sound most of the time, this bass is sweet. Its more like 350$ not 500, and all the preset sounds are great. It plays very easy and its easy to adjust. The finger style preset with the neck pickup rolled off some sounds great.

Picked this bass up at Guitar Center and started to play it. I was loving it so much and I had just got done playing around with a Gibson. This was thrown in a batch of Ibanezes that I was picking through throughout the day. I didn't bother to look at the tag or headstock, I blindly picked it up and started playing it. After so long I thought "Damn this is nice. Sounds cleaner than the T-Bird I was just playing." So then I pull the tag up to my face and I was practically shitting myself over the fact it was a Yamaha. I never saw them being anymore than a cheap beginner's bass company, like First Act or Dean Playmates. This however is unlike any other Yamaha I ever played. And the fact you get a mahogany body with a maple/mahogany neck and some high quality pickups for $350, well to me you can't go wrong which is why I'm buying one.

haha, man, this ist exactly my story including the T-bird, excaept that I didn't underestimate this company. This bass is a lot of basses in one and compared to most others with a big name really has brightness and phat punch. No choise can be better even up to 1500 dollars. No other company I know has that precision in fabrication. I feel so happy I ended up with this one.

I'm new to playing bass, (but have played guitar for a while). I picked up the TRBX505, as my first bass. (yeah, yeah, a little crazy for starting with a 5 string) I fell for the feel of it. I'm stilling exploring the various tones that I can get out of it. The only issue I have is that I feel I have to have it looked over by a good luthier. There are a few frets that seem to be a little high. (1-2 string, around the 15-17 fret range) Otherwise no complaints, other than there ain't enough hours in the day!

It's difficult of course to asses a bass online but I would rather a pro do it since they have greater experience. Having said that, I would like to have comments about how the instrument plays at the 24th fret....some basses make it difficult to play there while the cut away is not deep enough. In addition, I guess another way to asses a bass is to have a range of player styles and videos of the same instrument to get different points of view. While it 's not talked about in videos is the amp link. Using the same instrument with different amps would give a different sound at the recording of a video and would give the viewer a different impression of an instrument.

hey im 17 years old. im a guitarist whose quite interested in playing bass. ive already started playing bass using the top 4 strings of my guitar and i love it. im interested in buying myself my first bass guitar but im wondering if this TRBX304 is the best choice for a first bass. i love the look, the sound, the different EQ settings and everything about it but i just need some professional advice about this. should i stick to a cheaper one like the 174 or should i purchase this one because im really interested in the instrument and i plan on playing it all my life. whats your take. because i wanna stick with yamaha as all my current instruments such as my acoustic electric guitar and my DGX 505 portable grand piano are from them and i trust their quality. thanks to anyone with any advice for me
@snickersfan15
9 жыл бұрын
Never go for a cheaper instrument, always choose the classier one. Never go under the 300$+ range. :) The 174s hold in tune, but anything that will brush the headstock will cause the instrument to lose tuning. Anyway, as a first instrument, this would be great. Check the Miki Santamaria demo of this bass, someone posted a comment about it over there. Also, look for reviews on Google. You might find some interesting stuff about the bass on Music123, Musiciansfriend or Ultimate Guitar. :)

Hello Mr. Patitucci, my name is Paul and through this msg I'm presenting myself, I'm a big fan of yours and well I could use some advise from you, I'm planing to start learning some Jazz and I was looking to purchase a TRBX, I'm between the 305 and the 505, which you could think is a better idea? And my other question would be, I always play with a 4 String Bass Guitar but I was told that for Jazz Play is a better idea a (5) string Bass Guitar, how difficult could be play a 5 string Bass Guitar vs a 4 string Bass Guitar, you input will be well taken. Thanks in advanced, Paul

Paul Canting Rodriguez...... There have been, and Are.. Many Great Jazz bassists... who have never played anything but 4 string basses... (don't forget that the first "true" 5 string didn't appear until 1965 with the Fender Bass V... although Danelectro brought out a 5 string in 1956 [the UB-2], but it was not a true "bass" guitar [more of a Baritone guitar tuned an octave lower than regular guitars] and was out of production by 1959, but it gave Leo Fender the idea leading to the Bass V)..... so that should tell you something. : ) Hmmmm... just noticed that you posted your question, 4 yrs ago... am sure you've got it well figured out by now. lol
