This video is an example of media which puts together a bunch of edited snippets of clips to create a click-gathering controversy purely riding the coattails of someone's name in order to further their own. It completely ignores the depth and context of what Piper teaches as I promise you, Piper does not add works onto salvation at all. In fact, if you knew Piper you would know how ridiculous this accusation is. Piper isn't talking about works being necessary for salvation, he's expressing deep concern for the state of someone's faith who doesn't seem to be showing the evidence of fruit and is 'practicing sin' : "Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the Devil, for the Devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God , and who are the children of the Devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother." 1 John 3:8-10 'Practice sinning' here is the key idea... we all sin, but practicing sin openly and embracing it as business-as-usual vs. what a believer ought to be doing, which is being a new creation who seeks to 'keep [God's] commandments and do what pleases him' (1 John 3:22b) which is to believe in Jesus and love one another (1 John 3:23). We'll never be perfect at that on this side of the veil, but we ought to be making war on sin and fighting for our sanctification, becoming ever more like Christ. In this woman's case, disobeying God's commands openly neither expresses love to God nor to the person she was involved with as this defies both the front and the back half of the Dekalog... love God; love your neighbor. 'Everyone who has believed that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God , and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome." 1 John 5:1-3 There *ought* to be a real concern for anyone who claims to be a believer but is openly practicing sin. Maybe she is a believer acting as a prodigal, or maybe she needs to examine how real her faith really is. And if she is the former there is a biblical command to seek to restore you brother to right standing and fellowship, which can't happen unless the sin is taken as the dead serious affront to a holy God that it is. ***** Now, if you want to debate Piper from a Reformed vs. Arminian theology standpoint go for it, but this is a debate between brothers all believing in orthodox Christian faith... what side of that debate someone lands on does *not* in any way equate to heresy and does not make someone a false prophet unless they are also somehow denying the resurrection and the full humanity and divinity of Jesus necessary for his salvific work. CLEARLY PIPER DOES NOT. You cannot just throw that word or term around because, once again, John the disciple of Jesus gives a biblical definition of what a false prophet / antichrist is: (in a discussion about the many antichrists that had gone out form the church and were at that point leading others astray by teaching gnostic falsehoods about Jesus) "[The many antichrists] went out from us but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continues with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they were not of us."... "Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the father and the son. No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also." (1 John 2:19; 1 John 2:22-23) and then also " Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and is now in the world already" (1 John 4:1-3) BY BIBLICAL DEFINITION a false prophet / antichrist is one who denies that Jesus is the Christ / Messiah / Son of God and denies that Jesus came in the flesh. Piper does no such thing. Not even remotely close. To use language that states that Piper *is* a false prophet is to literally *THROW AWAY SCRIPTURE* teaching what a false prophet actually is. It also breaks the commandment to 'not bear false witness against your neighbor', not to mention your attitude ignores biblical commands to seek to restore your brother lovingly (because, if you truly loved him as a brother as you ought according to scriptural commands you would want to bring him to the truth, not mock him on the internet). By evidence of your actions I suspect you are far, far more interested in hits on your channel (personal gain) than you are in the well being of your brother. If truly believed Piper is wrong in a highly problematic way and you loved your brother as yourself, your attitude and depth of discussion would be vastly different than what you display. There would be humility and gravity, not mockery. Your attitude and actions do not reflect Christ and therefore do not lend yourselves to biblical credibility.

Cassady, with love and respect, admittedly I think we are from different camps when it comes to the particulars of what we ought to believe and how to practice our faith but I think in the excerpts of John Piper’s about works. He does not intend to mean works are salvific but rather works are fruits that shows other Christians our faith. Would you not agree that one could not openly defy what we know about God’s commandments for Christian living with the intent of saying well all is forgiven so why should I try to live a holy life? Romans 6:1-2 (KJV) 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? God commands us to exercise our will to kill any sin that remains in our mortal bodies to show that we are true disciples and let our fellow Christian brothers and sisters know that we have saving faith in Christ Jesus. I believe this is what John Piper would have sought to convey if the video clips were not spliced together but were in full context of the whole sermon. It is not something we do on our own but through the power of God within us. We will never be sinless this side of heaven but we should sin less as we grown in Christ. Respectfully.

John Piper? Here’s my problem. I’m getting up in age and feeling quite feeble. My wife, on the other hand, is going full-bore. I have always driven old cars. Cars that break down with unfortunate (but understandable) frequency. I always either fix them myself, or take them in. Question: if I were to buy my wife a new car on the assumption that she will outlive me just how much of a sin would that be? I don’t want her to have to worry about break-downs, you know? I know you have said that buying a new car is a sin, yet how am I to go to my grave in peace thinking about my wife being stranded somewhere? You also say that sin will keep us from heaven (that free grace only gets “God on our side” but from then on out it is a matter of works). So if I were to buy the cheapest new car I could find, would that exclude me from Heavenly glory? Or should I keep my old car (which is currently broken down) on the hope that in doing so God will allow me admittance to His Kingdom? In addition, I own a 900 sq ft house that I fear is a nod to the American dream (even though I’m next door to a bunch of Nicaraguan migrants). How will this figure into my prospects come judgement day? Also, will God hold it against me if I have a nice family if I do NOT collect seashells?

I know I will recieve hate for this comment but I I feel moved to mention it. I was brought up being judgemental on others and myself. I knew it was wrong and since I began to learn about the Lord Jesus it became clear to me how destructive and evil this is. I still struggle with it but I have faith God will deliver from this ongoing sin. On saying that, I recognise that same attitude in both of you guys and that is not coming from a place of judgement but from a understanding that it is a common struggle for us to show mercy to another human being. I find that difficult but directing myself to develop this in me is something I know will please Jesus. I can understand anyone who says this is not easy but it is what the lord desires. After watching your video, I think it may be noteworthy to remind you of what is written in the bible regarding faith. Faith without works is dead. But Paul also said I will show you my faith by my works. This means that true saving faith is demonstrated by becoming like our Lord Jesus. I could not see any mercy demonstrated towards John Piper from you but merely mocking him. I hope this shines some light for each of us to see our own shortcomings so we can each work on changing our ways through faith in Jesus. Before you decide to stone my comment, it is reasonable to say, it is not mentioned in the Bible that Jesus mocked anyone or laughed about anyones efforts to defend their beliefs even if it was completely against him. Jesus grieved at thier hardness of heart. Im not saying John Piper has a hard heart, Im suggesting that instead of treating him as a foe, would it not be right grieve for another whom we believe may not be saved? Laughing at someones downfall is ungodly for God takes no delight in the death of the wicked. By the way Im nowhere close to being like Christ and Im only beginning to be more committed to him and his word. God bless you and I hope my own struggles made light may inspire us to become more like Christ for that is why he died for us. Amen.

When you quote something you don’t understand. You’re conflating the word “believe” here with other verses that say “believe,” even though the context is completely different, thus the word “believe” takes on a different usage as well. “Believe” in John 2:19 is not the same “believe” as Romans 10:9. “Believe” in Romans 10:9 means to actually put your faith in Christ, while in John 2:19, “believe” means “to know that God exists,” as they (demons) know Who God is. Also, it’s clearly indicating that demons know that not only does God exist but that there is only ONE God, not many, as the audience (the Greeks) believed then. The people this verse is being spoken to are the polytheists; essentially, they’re being told their gods are fake. Demons believe in God in that they know there is One God - Yah, and that all others are false. However, demons do not believe in the sense that they put their faith in God. This is not the same as Romans 10:9, which speaks of believing in Jesus Christ (God), as in putting our faith in Him for our salvation. Demons can never have salvation, we can.

Obviously the demons know the facts of the faith firsthand, but neither profess or possess faith, nor can they ever The “faith” of demons is useless, even though they tremble at what they know to be true. "Can faith save him? such a faith as this, a faith without works, an historical one, a mere profession of faith, which lies only in words, and has no deeds, to show the truth and genuineness of it. True faith indeed has no causal influence on salvation, or has any virtue and efficacy in itself to save; Christ, object of faith, is the only cause and author of salvation; faith is only that grace which receives a justifying righteousness, the pardon of sin, adoption, and a right to the heavenly inheritance; but it does not justify, nor pardon, nor adopt, nor give the right to the inheritance, but lays hold on, and claims these, by virtue of the gift of grace; and it has spiritual and eternal salvation inseparably connected with it; but as for the other faith, a man may have it, and be in the gall of bitterness, and bond of iniquity; he may have all faith in that sense, and be nothing; it is no other than the devils themselves have; and so he may have it, and be damned." Maybe Cassidy, you keep tripping up over this works based vs graced based topic because you are in sin and don't want to believe that you have to repent from sin. (To be clear, you are not saved by repentance, but one who does not repent is not saved.) From the words of Jesus Himself. Luke 13:3 - I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Matthew 3:8 - Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: Matthew 7:21 - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 1 John 3:6 - Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Yes you are right, it is by grace alone. Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God Galatians 2:16 - Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Romans 10:9 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved So if you keep sinning, do you know God? No, 1 John 3:6 Does that mean if we stop sinning (habitual, no one is perfect). we are saved? No, it's by His grace - Ephesians 2:8 All of scripture is true. Which means that all of these scriptures above are true.
@Nighhhts

You’re quoting a lot of scripture out of context and conflating other Scripture that has nothing to do with the others in regards to salvation. 1 John 3:6 is referring to believers in the “new man,” which doesn’t sin. This is referring to walking in the Spirit, which cannot sin in Christ. It’s being contrasted with the flesh, the “old man,” which is under sin, and therefore those in the flesh (old man) are sinners and thus unbelievers. So ultimately 1 John 3:6 is contrasting believers from unbelievers, or at minimum those believers who struggle with living in the flesh, specifically fighting against it. This is one of the verses you quoted incorrectly… “Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.” - 1 John 3:6 KJV “Him” is clearly referring to Jesus Christ, therefore it’s about believing in Christ. “Sinneth not” doesn’t mean “to stop sinning” or “doesn’t sin,” it means to “not love sin,” which means that person doesn’t crave sin in that he/she is debased. Those who love sin, want to sin, and find no fault in their sin, they are debased and not believers in the first place, thus they don’t know Christ. Nowhere in the passage or in the original Greek did people actually think they can be perfectly sinless like Christ, otherwise that defeats the entire purpose of Christ dying for us. And since John said this, if he was talking about being perfectly sinless like Christ, then that would mean he contradicted himself when he said: “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” - 1 John 1:8 KJV Also, the verses that speaks of the “will of God,” in which you quoted, are referring to believing in Christ, which is quite literally the “will of God.”
@Nighhhts
Жыл бұрын
Luke 13:3 is contrasting believers in Christ from unbelievers. Matthew 3:8 is literally John speaking to the Pharisees and Sadducees, who are unbelievers, thus John is contrasting unbelievers and believers. He’s telling them that their teachings have to bear fruit, and that “fruit” would be the “changing of their minds” from unbelief to belief in Christ. They don’t bear fruit because their teachings lead to death, not Christ, who is life. Matthew 7:21 is once again contrasting believers from unbelievers. “He who does the will of My Father in heaven” is Jesus referring to believing in Him [Jesus] to be saved and justified in the Father’s eyes. The will of the Father is stated in John 6:40, which says: “And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”” - John 6:40 NKJV “This is the will of Him [the Father] who Me [Jesus Christ], that everyone who sees the Son [Jesus Christ] and believes in Him [Jesus Christ] may have everlasting life; and I [Jesus Christ] will raise him [the believer] up at the last day.

@@kaioken654 Actually it's not. There's a difference if you listen carefully. Look at verse 18 "I will shew thee my faith by my works." His point is that faith will produce works. Not that you are saved by works, but that if you are saved, you will definitely have works. So I’m assuming from your ministry name that you are a KJV 1611 only ministry. Frankly, I had never heard of this movement until a week ago. It seems pretty nonsensical to me, but whatever floats your boat. But right off the bat, I’m sure you think Piper gets a strike because he doesn’t use the KJV 1611 version. But what concerns me most are the accusations against Piper of being inconsistent on the Gospel, and thus a wicked false teacher. I have unfortunately been steeped in his ministry and the general neo-Calvinist movement for much of my life. I do not agree with either Piper or Calvinism in general. That list could go on and on. Though I disagree with Piper on a great many things, I absolutely think that you completely twist what he is trying, in his usual confusing style, to say about the Gospel. That clip about the woman shacking up in adultery is taken quite out of context. In addition, I doubt you follow his ministry in enough depth to follow his overly-complicated logic (that’s not a bad thing, btw). But he most assuredly does not believe that you have to follow the Mosaic law or work for your justification. His sermons on Romans 3-5 say over and over and over that justification is by faith alone without works (he says it several hundred times in those 30 sermons or so). But he believes Romans 1:17 that the just (those who have been justified by faith) live by faith. You can tell if a person has been justified by faith by how they live. If they live unfaithful, wicked lives (like shacking up in adultery), then that is evidence that they have not been justified by faith. He would go further and quote 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 that says that adulterers will not inherit the kingdom of God, but that real Christians have been cleansed and sanctified and no longer live like that. And then, of course, he would go to 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 and say that real Christians that are the temples of God will have no fellowship with these works of darkness. Now, of course, I disagree. But his perspective is steeped in his Calvinism and doctrine of the New Birth. Though I disagree with him, I think it’s important not to misrepresent his views. He does not believe that you work for your salvation or have to follow the Law to be saved. And he is very confusing to non-Calvinists who do not understand his theological perspective and heritage. But if I were to do a video discussing his views, I might actually bother to find out what those actually are.

I can tell y’all all this… the two guys making this video, and the way they are acting, almost foolishly, mocking Piper, does not exhibit any part of love nor wisdom, nor anything I would expect from a Holy Spirit filled Christian. What I am saying is be careful who you listen to, including these two guys. I saw enough in 2 mins 30 secs to realize these two guys aren’t worth listening to any longer.

Do people not think it is wrong to sell all these books that they sell? After all God gave them (if it were true) these words that they sell and God gave for free. ❤ of course they would only know all of that because of God or another source. Also i was looking at Jim Jones and feels like the Devil incarned. Really feel bad for these people he preach for. But seriously take a look at the man its the devil.

This man serves the enemy. Run far and wide from him. These B and C class actors and comedians try to make it to the next level (or make it to that big club that we aren’t in) and in order to make it there they must deceive Christian’s. This guy is sewing his own path to destruction. Do not support, comment, like this heathens work. Judgement is here for these people and God will work it out in due time. You are correct, he is very wrong.

If you 2 men were truly concerned about showing someone to be a false teacher, then why do you find this so funny? I would think your attitudes would be of sorrow. You both are not understanding what Piper was saying. The scriptures do state that to LIVE in sin as a lifestyle shows that you have not been convicted by the Holy Spirit and if you are a true believer, you will be convicted and turn from your sin. If a person is a true believer, that person will WANT to grow in obedience. It is called sanctification and it is a lifelong work of God to sanctify the believer. Also, you mention the thief on the cross. He was saved by FAITH! Any believer is saved ONLY BY FAITH -not by works! Please read James 2:17 and James 2:26. Also remember that the scripture says “ Even the devil believes. Finally please turn to Matt 7 22-23 which says basically - Many will be deceived into believing they are a child of God, but they will be told after death- Depart from Me! I never knew you! I read the ESV and the KJV. Study them both and you will find no problems! You may also want to study on how the ESV came to be. Finally, examine yourselves to see if you are in the faith. From - 2 Corinthians 13:5-7. This is VERY SERIOUS stuff and I hope you both will come to understand what faith truly is.

First, I am not a Calvinist, nor a huge fan of John Piper. Sometimes I agree with him, other times I don't. I'd rather hear Adrian Rogers. With that said, a person's initial response to the Gospel is faith and repentance, believing the truth and calling on the Lord for salvation, confessing he is truly Lord. Even according to Jesus, a person who does not ever produce fruit isn't a real believer. Paul was also clear that a person living in sexual immorality has no inheritance. I personally believe that we can kill our faith by ignoring the warnings of scripture, therefore eventually falling away, however, I also believe because of the promise of God through Christ no true believer will be lost in this way for he holds us secure. So the warnings are there to keep us from falling over the ledge. This woman was warned by God to repent, which she did, and therefore she was kept by the power of God through faith for she believed the warning and responded in faith. Warnings from God are his method to keep us from harm. We are saved by grace, and a truly saved person is changed by the power of God by the blood of Jesus and his Spirit. Being changed by the Spirit, true believers will respond when the Lord warns them, proving they are true believers for the life of God is in them.

You guys should really look up where the only mention of "faith alone" is in the Bible. You are making fools of yourselves attacking someone like John Piper in this way, he is much older than you and probably better educated. You should listen to what he is saying instead of attacking.

You are taking John piper out of context, he is talking about the work of faith, love and the Holy Spirit in the Christian life. " (1 Thessalonians 1:3) Obedience is a work of Faith".. I encourage you to read the whole verse. And correct anything I say with scripture in a Christian way because misinterpreteing the Bible is very very bad. "Mathew 7:21" Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven" I think John piper is talking about the work of the Holy Spirit and sanctification in the life of a Christian. Should we not be improving over time never perfect but seeing sanctification happening. Yes, We are saved by faith alone, Jesus paid the price that through faith you might be free, it was a price you could never pay on your own and it is sufficient for all sin, but Are we not still constantly resisting sin. Can we know how much we believe and how much faith We really have by our lives fruit (joy, self control,peace, love, ect). If you just say you love God but your life doesn't reflect that it should be concerning. We are to be renewing our mind ( Romans 12:1-2). Reading our bible and staying in prayer. We still need to resist sin and love God with all we have within us in spirit and in truth, that is where faith should lead us. Worship is more than empty words it should be backed by the truth of scripture. God knows the difference, he sees your heart and knows all things. He knows if you love his ways and believe in him, if you're living by faith, it should produce love (Galatians 5 talks about it) your heart should be being changed by grace as evidence of faith.

I love John Piper. I think there's just a lot of misunderstanding about some of the things he said in the past, but when you sit there, listen to him and really analyze what he's saying, comparing it to scripture.Of course he not saying anything unbiblical.
