Ray Kennedy burns that piano, MAN! kinda think he cut John "line-wise"....but then, when john plays that stop-time chord solo, my mind was blown yet again. They SWING SO F*&^ing HARD, OMG. Probably one of the best spent 4 min and 25 sec i've used in my life. i need to transcribe that piano solo, transfer that vibe onto my tenor.

This is so tight.. Ray Kennedy is one the most underrated piano players around. He's so relaxed and speaks the language so well. John plays such a great guitar as well and has so much style and personality, this is an absolutely phenomenal drummerless trio.

Ray Kennedy. I'm from St.Louis grew up with those cats as an influence. Ray and Tom kennedy and Dave Weckl. They've been friends since they were youngins'. They are all freaks of nature. And all just super guys.

This great pianist, Ray Kennedy, died in 2015. Something about his playing reminds me of Teddy Wilson, who played with Benny Goodman. Such virtuosity and seemingly easy for them to play at these breakneck tempos. Pizzarelli is superb, as is the bassist, who is probably his brother. I don't know of anyone who plays bass / guitar rhythm comping on standards better than they. In a blindfold test you can hear them every time way ahead of anyone else. Gold medal winners in this event.

Indeed. Your comment is 15 years old. Since your comment, Ray Kennedy has passed on..and the great Russell Malone from Krall's trio was taken by a heart attack ten days ago. ..so your comment is really eye catching all these years later. Indeed. Thank The Lord that we had these two trios. Like you said, "keepers of the flame"

@jazzman3071 I get so tired of people praising one musician but feel the need to trash another. Both John P and Al D are great guitarists who play in very different styles. Pizzarelli doesn't get the acclaim he deserves - I think his importance won't be truly understood until "After he's gone." To those who say that Di Meola can only shred - listen to him on Friday night in San Francisco with Paco De Lucia and John McLaughlin - Al is amazing.
