John is a tremendously nice guy. I met him in 2014, and he signed a "Smallville" 8x10 for me. I then asked him for an interview, and his response was, "Who are you with?" I had to explain that I was just doing it for my KZitem page, so he agreed...and even now, that 12-minute audio conversation is still on my channel. Thanks again, Mr. Schneider!

John Schneider is correct. Smallville was the first shared universe in live action, it came before Marvel, and since the first episode, you can see Lionel in the helicopter with little Lex, and the headline in the newspaper he's reading is about the death of Oliver Queen's parents, which indicates that Smallville had that intention since episode I.
@44excalibur
7 ай бұрын
He's partially correct. Smallville had the potential for a shared universe, but WB consistently refused to allow them to use characters like Bruce Wayne, or to have a teenage Bruce Wayne TV show (similar to Gotham) be made as a companion to Smallville, which was the original plan from the start. Their reason was that they didn't want their films to compete with a television show. WB also refused to let them use Diana Prince and Barry Allen due to planned film projects from Joss Whedon and David Goyer that ended up never being made. Can you imagine what a Smallville/Gotham shared universe, similar to Arrow/The Flash, could've been like? It would've been epic.

I agree I think having a longer portrayal with the opportunity for more depth is great. Original Johnathan Kent is a righteous man who raised a good son who went on to carry the weight of the world, sure, we love that guy, but, the compassion he has for Clark in Smallville, the miracle of his origins and the complicated situations he had to navigate as a man and a father trying to do the right thing. It's a very rich portrayal. I also love the allusion to the Duke's of Hazard when his old pal shows up for one episode and the complicated relationship he has with Jor El and how they had to come together to do what was best for Clark in Season 3

They're standing next to each other and facing towards one another sharing dialogue. Glover isn't faced away the whole time and they're not in different parts of the room. Could he possibly be thinking of a deleted scene that didn't make it into the final cut of the episode? As far as the final cut goes, the scene he's describing isn't in the ep.

It's ironic to see negative comments about John, as a person with his own politics and from a generation that could still read what our Constitution defined as treason and proper punishment for it, (when he literally just stated what he was taught to be true), from fans of a show where he played a character that would have definitely agreed that a treasonous politician should be punished to the full extent of the law. ESPECIALLY considering his whole character arc was literally to be a good but struggling dad who kept Clark grounded with the idea that no one, not even the rich or powerful, should be above the law. I'm only an hour away from a Kansas town that renames itself Smallville, for two weeks a year, and it has become a lawless mess due to a country's complete lack of accountability. Plenty of John's older generation that live there are wondering what the hell happened to their quiet town, let alone the rest of the country. Our elections are a joke, our candidates are criminals and sellouts, and if anyone calls for accountability on either side of the aisle, they are made out to be villains or we send the Secret Service after them. Meanwhile, the politicians in the Executive, Legislative AND Judicial branches act like spoiled monsters who could care less that the very country they swore to serve is in the way of their next payday or position. Canada isn't exactly doing better, these days. It's kind of like running a TV series with a new director and firing him from the position for not using actors in the same shot... when YOU caused the scheduling problem and made that an impossibilty. It's just typical upper management stupidity and lack of planning. Like... maybe he's not the problem.

John prob didn't do any favors for himself in future roles. No one made him be an actor. He chose to behave how he chose to behave knowing his environment and that rubbed some people a certain way likely. You can even see it in the body language of the interview. Tom just wants everyone to get along, Rosenbaum seems confused and Jonathan is almost aggrieved (go figure). What you want them to pat John on the back and say 'aw John ur always such a @hole 😂'?
